yes you can drag the image into GIS and it will find "visually similar" images. Sometimes its a direct hit, sometimes not. You can also add text to narrow the search, like having a picture of a weld and adding the text "Weld" to the search. This will narrow the results considerably.

Still, while I agree that borrowing images FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES is "wrong" (I have no problems with it in a non-commercial instance, like illustrating a point) we've gone too far off the deep end with laws like the DMCA. As you may or may no know iforgeiron.com is down right now from a bogus DMCA claim, basically a spammer launched a DMCA in retaliation for being banned as a spammer. The site owners had no option then to shut down until this DMCA is settled. Thats a lot of BS if you ask me.

Ya.. the way it works is anyone can make a DMCA claim and the site goes down until the owners prove they are not in violation.. And the abusers seem to always get away with it.. Here's a big case where fake DMCA's were filed to keep a website down, then to try and close the ISP host and the ISP sued... only to lose.... Thank Congress. :confused2:

Technology & Marketing Law Blog: 512(f) Claim Dismissed on Jurisdictional Grounds--Project DoD v. Federici

Actually, if the site owner files a rebuttal, the host is supposed to keep the material down for 10-14 days to give the complainant time to file a lawsuit and if the complainant doesn't file a lawsuit, the complaint is void and host is supposed to put the material back up.
The issue in the article you linked was that there were multiple people (falsely) claiming copyright to the sire in question, so there were multiple instances of stuff being taken down.

There are many, many bogus DMCA's filed, some outright lies, some to suppress "the truth", all in the name of stopping people from "sharing" songs (yes I know its a bit broader than that, but the RIAA is a driving force behind it, and even more scarier, new rules to "strengthen" the DMCA even more, as if the DMCA isnt too strong already). And everybody should be scared of the current "Six Strikes" legislation.

RIAA and other lobby groups need to be neutered, they wield far too much influence.

That's whats happening on Iforge right now. Bogus copyright. Now the site is down for two weeks. This is pure "punishment" by the spammer for a banning, and that ain't right. Site should remain up until the DMCA is settled, and the filer sued for all their worth, assuming you can actually find them.

Well I for darn sure aren't going to file any claims against anyone. or any sites. I just think the guy is a puke for claiming to be a professional welder, and advertising his phone numbers on his site, with dozens of examples of his work, and including my little hobby weldor flat weld on his site. It is dishonest and says a lot about him, in my opinion. I would not make a "pimple on a good weldors....." but then again I don't think he would either.
