I've been working away at the barn, but not as diligent as Spencer and Henro in the picture taking department. I got the shingles finished and the siding up this weekend. I used SmartPanel siding as opposed to straight T111. This stuff is about the same but it came pre-primed with a 30 year warranty. Only a couple of dollars more per sheet.

Here's a shot from my tractor. Yet to finish the sliding doors, trim and paint. Someday, it will need a cupola and a rooster weathervane, but that may just have to wait /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks good, Rob...

That link to SmartPanel doesn't seem to work... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Now that you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel...what's your next project?

Hi Rob...

A couple quick questions?

I want to build a wood shed this summer and after seeing how you've been building your shed on crushed concrete, I've been thinking of building on the same similar base. But, where does one purchase crushed concrete? And, what is that black plastic tarp you laid down that the concrete is being dumped on?

Hi Bob, I got the crushed concrete through the excavator who did all our foundation/driveway work. He only trucked it though, I'm sure he got it from a concrete recycling outfit. Talk to your local excavating/trucking contractors, they should know where to get the stuff.

The black "tarp" is just weed barrier fabric. I put it down around the perimeter to block weeds and perhaps add some stability to the subsoil. It may not do much for either but it was cheap enough.

Bill, I had the same problem with that website now that you mentioned it. Try this /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Once again, my skills as a photo-journalist lag well behind Spencer and Henro, but at least I remembered a couple. Here is the barn painted and ready for doors. Had to have the tractor in the shot since this is a tractor board, right /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And here is the finished product. It is loosely patterned after a barn not far from us dating to the late 1800s. Of course, ours is much smaller but it will be just the ticket to de-clutter the garage. Too small for my 790 but the lawn tractor will fit well.

The sliding doors proved to be a bigger challenge than what I planned. The hardware mounts to the door face but with the trim our doors are thicker than what they designed for. I had to shim the track out from the wall an equal thickness. The doors slide nicely but I still need to come up with a latch/lock system of some sort. Also need to put plywood in the loft area and a ladder for the kids. I promised them a loft and they haven't forgotten that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Maybe if I didn't take so many photos my project would be further along /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Nice looking barn, you did a fine job.
