I notch out my posts to accept the wood that will be bolted and nailed together to make built up beams.

Not sure what the normal practice is, but this is the way I do it.

Also not the importance of double checking your measurements...the red line was a measurement mistake...

One advantage of being a single person building crew, is that it takes long enought to get anything done that you can reconsider what you are doing.

I decided that my original idea could be improved upon, and decided to make the roof a single plane, rather than two slopes joined together. So I will run the new rafters up to the existing peak...

Hence, off come a corner of the existing roof so I can install another post...which I had not planned to do intially...

12 inch diameter stone in the bottom of a 14 inch auger hole shows that the 14 inch auger actually digs about 16 inches in diameter...

After lifting those other posts manually, and man handling those wall sections...I felt like I might have strained something in my belly...

Seemed like time to ask my friend for a little more help!

First beam up.

Those intermediate 4x4s will be cut off even and I will bolt a 2x4 along them to hang things from. I orginally intended to cut them off at the level of the top of the wall panels, but realized that a 2x4 above the wall panels could be real handy for hanging things off of...
