Bill, are you going to put any waterproofing on your prefab panels before you backfill?

Also, whereabouts are you from Pgh? Many years ago I lived both on the North side and out in Greensburg - I try to picture where you are and can't get a fix on it.

More demolition and preparitory work. This half of the roof will eventually come off entirely. But I can't take it off yet as I want to keep the rain out of the existing little shed.

I had to open a hole to run a string to set up for a beam that will run the lenght of the new shed at this point, supporting 16 foot 2x8 roof rafters...

I supported the roof from inside with some 4x4s before cutting off a couple feet.

The new beam will run above the existing wall...supported at the ends. The existing wall will not be load bearing, but the beam will sit on it, but be supported at the ends. I don't know at this point if it will actually touch that wall or be a shade above it...

I had originally planned to use some plywood to make a division between the crushed stone I planned to backfill agains the walls with and the dirt I would back fill with.

That piece of roof I cut off seemed perfect for the job. Here it is in place before I backfilled with earth on the outside and filled the wall side with crushed stone...

Intermediate beam going up. This is a 8x12, made up of 4 2x12s. It extends out 4 feet, which will be 2 feet beyond the roof overhang.

I will use this as a hoisting point. It should easily handle 500 lbs 3 feet out from the wall, and if I add a little support 1,000 lbs will be possible. But I think 500 lbs will be enough capacity for me...
