I thought I would give a little update. All of the original production is in the hands of professionals for evaluation. So fare the responses have been very positive. The most common comment goes something like this, "are you sure someone hasn't marketed that idea before? It's so obvious."
What I plan on doing is limited production with a higher price and then adapt to increased demand if it happens. I've changed the client targeting a little bit because of a conversation I had with a friend the other day. He said, "you need to go to the city water department because if you look at any of the newer meter boxes you will see chipped curbing and sidewalks where they have beat the heck out of the concrete." That made a lot of sense to me so I went to a few of the local water departments and they all were interested.
My pitch was, "I know y'all have had angry homeowners over the chipping of the sidewalks and curbs caused by your employees beating the clay off of their shovels. This will eliminate that issue. In fact if you place our device on a tarp you can leave the repair with no evidence of your visit because there will be no mud on the sidewalk or lawn."
We'll see if a loan of the device is an incentive to purchase. I would rather deal with professionals and avoid having to haggle with homeowners etc.
One of my friends is the president of a substantial lawncare/landscape/irrigation company in the richer areas of Dallas. I talked to him tonight and he said he their usual Tuesday management meeting will include feed back from the four crews using the device. I hope we get mostly positive reviews but if we don't we will adjust and appreciate their input.
We've changed the name and are having a logo done. Once again friends contributed ideas much better than mine. If this thing takes off that means I will have to buy them lunch on a fishing boat somewhere.
