When you say "HIT" the button, are you HOLDING the button. The manual says HOLD THE BUTTON

Yeah, I was holding it down. Normally you just have to touch the down button and it starts moving,, I've had it about ten years and never did anything with the hinges. Guess this was bound to happen,,,

My 2002 Bri-Mar does this when empty after it has been sitting.

I usually grab the rub rail and pull on it, without getting underneath the bed while pressing the down button and it starts to move.
