Brandi, this is not a story about fish, but this spring, I did a dumb thing when I seeded grass seed in my yard. Because I wanted more than native grasses in a portion of my yard, I took my tiller on my tractor and tilled this section of my yard about 2" deep. Then, I removed rocks and dragged it with a chainlink drag to get it nice and flat. I also hauled in sand for leveling. I went to the local Walmart and bought fertilizer and a mix of fescue and bermuda seed. I guess I spent close to $200 on fertilizer and seed. I got home and spread the fertilizer very evenly over the plot with my pull behind spreader for my lawn tractor. Then, I spread the seed very heavily to be sure I had good coverage. As I was cleaning up and feeling all smug, I happened to notice one of the empty plastic bags of fertilizer said "Weed and Feed." My heart sank! I quickly looked at the other empty bags and they were all the same. It seems that Walmart had regular fertilizer stacked right beside the weed and feed type. The bags were similar and I grabbed four of the wrong bags, never noticing until I had it on the ground with the seed.:(

I have to give the weed and feed credit. It worked very well. True to form, the seed never germinated despite my watering two or three times per day to keep it wet. Sheesh! About a month later, I went back to Walmart and spent another $200, this time getting the right seed and fertilizer. The picture below shows how successful I was. Sometimes stuff happens.:)

BTW: The area around your pond and the water are looking good. I didn't see any algae at all.;)

Jim,
I think we have all had a big boo-boo in our lives. I had one with a beautiful black 1979 T bird. I bought 10-w40 mutli weight oil by mistake instead of good old 30 weight. I figured one oil change would be okay. Well, with over 90,000 miles of sludge buildup before I bought it, that mutli weight loosened enough sludge to clog the upper oil passages. It starved the lower end of oil and one trip to work and back home had the main bearings knocking. Talk about a sinking feeling
Thanks also. The pond is way nicer looking now. That crane wouldn't have been walking around like that 12 days ago. It would have algae wrapped around it's legs.
I have been trying to figure out what to do with the far shore line. I want to plant something there that won't overgrow and cause more problems. There is a pond store west of Houston and one in Austin I want to visit.
hugs, Brandi

I have made an air diffuser out of scrap airhose. It is about 10 feet long and coiled and ty wrapped. Numerous #40 drill bit holes are in it. I will secure this in a weighted bucket and lower it to the bottom of the pond. The homemade air diffuser is saving me $50 and up. I made one of these years ago, at work, and still use it in hot, confined spaces of the aircraft for cooling.

I plan on running it at about 5 psi from my barn's air compressor. So I will bury the line for about 170 feet, run it up through my overflow pipe (which goes under my driveway and dam) and down to a depth of 11.5 feet.

My question is should I bury 170 feet of regular air hose inside 1 inch poly pipe (http://www.tractorsupply.com/home-i...lene-flexible-coil-pipe-1-in-x-100-ft-3151664 Tractor Supply Company) from Tractor Supply, or just run 1/2 inch poly pipe (rated to 100 psi) and just pressurize just the 1/2 inch pipe?
hugs, Brandi

My vote is poly only. I think poly and a hose (Pollyanna hose ;)) is overdoing it.

Jim,
I agree. Keep it simple.

Use 1" poly & you can add the hose later if you like...

Defective,
That is a darn good idea. I do have doubts of running air hose in already buried pipe. It might be too hard to do. I will go to TSC and check out their poly pipe connections to see if is easy to go from 1 inch poly pipe to air hose connections. I will just have to play around with it.

First I gotta play with the air diffuser in the pond this Saturday.

I'm sure it's just me, but does anybody else have a funny mental picture of Brandi standing in her pond and bubbles coming up from around her legs?

OK, I'll stop. :laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Eddie, that's funny.:D It's about as funny as my mental picture of you, sitting in the middle of your lake in a row boat with no gun and the shoreline lined with hogs. I swear, I've never seen another place with as many hogs as you have.

Brandi - Wouldn't it be easier to feed the fish beans?

LOL

Is the possibility of oil mist contamination in the air from the compressor going to be a problem?
