Brandi, that was facinating. I spent all morning reading all 39 pages of posts. I want to build a pond on my land in Va. The only source of water is road runoff. The soil is mountain "dirt" so I would have to "import" clay I guess. Sure was alot of work and I'm sure money. Great perseverenve on your part. It's hurricane/rainy season, it will fill again.

Boeing,
Thanks! I put about 90 hours on the Big RED Beast's hour meter. That equals about 90-100 gallons of diesel. So just $ for the diesel, bulkhead and pier materials, and overflow pipes. All the rest was on the Mahindra's shoulders. My time was calucated in a lifelong dream, which makes it priceless.

You will need clay or bentonite to seal your pond. As I understand, bentonite is a Texas thing, so it might be expensive to haul to your place.

You never can depend on a tropical storm or hurricane. They never go where you want them to go.

If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going.

OK, thanks! I didn't know TSC carried that stuff. Think I'll try it out on my and my Dad's ponds. I've also heard that throwing chunks of drywall will clear up water, but has a bad side effect....now I can't remember what!

Frank

Brandi, how much cornmeal do you use in a pond that size? I have heard of this but was told if I used too much the water would be too clear. I can't remember what the negative consequence would be, it was something like the pond would be overgrown with water plants due to the extra light going in.
You did a great job on this and it looks great.

Ron,
Thanks.:) I got the ehow.com recipe link from Jinman.:) Here it is....Homemade Algaecide | eHow.com

It is one cup of cornmeal per square foot. I figure mine on 30x70 feet, so I put in 21 cups. You suppose to use pantyhose, so remember to ask before taking the Mrs. stuff.;)

I dont think it would make it too clear, but I am also adding Aquashade. Which gives it a blueish green tint like looking through sunglasses into the water.

I don't have a Mrs. just a gf, I won't take her pantyhose I guess I will just buy my own hehe. I'm just not sure how I should dress for this transaction.
On another note, I talked to my friend about preparing the large catfish. He said mainly just to fillet them and cut any fat and red meat away.
