I got last load of horse hay bales today.

The only reason I buy hay is for mulching newly installed culverts and ditches. I used to try to find the best price, then realized I'd save the client's money if I bought at the most convenient place rather than driving around to save a buck per bale.
One time years ago the hay guy thought that since it was for "the company" it was a chance to get rid of his worst bales. They were so light that they almost blew out of the truck. I ended up eating the price because I couldn't in good conscience charge for them, and at that time I was subcontracting so my name was on the invoice.
I never bought hay from him again.

And started spending about 6 years with lifting bales and tossing them on the wagon.
Two main memories:
Oats are heavy
Farmers daughters make great memories.

Do not forget bean hay, nasty, dusty, HEAVY. Would itch for a week after putting any up.

As for the daughters, oh yes! Married one, 55 years now and I still praise her for her mental lapse when she said yes.

Would you believe that I loaded 60 round bales on my little 10k trailer yesterday?

LOL, cute little things. About 40 lbs/6.50 apiece. First time that I ever got these. My tie down points were all wrong so I have it wrapped up like a Christmas turkey. If my horses like it
(timothy/orchard) then as I get them used to it, I'll just throw a bale in a 100 gallon tub for each my the horses.

This was my wife's idea as she does not agree with the alfalfa/orchard that I prefer to feed them.

The seller, a retired school teacher, lives on the farm that he grew up on. He uses a 28hp Mahindra. Based on a 600 lb round bale, I figure that equals 15 of these 40 pounders times 6.5 equals $97.50. Keeps him and a couple of other retirees busy and moving around. Not a big Investment in equipment.

Generally hay because it's easier to come by and costs less. Plus it contributes seed to the bare soil.

So $325/ton?
I need to raise my prices.
I’m like $240 delivered locally for horse hay for 900lb bales.

This seller has people coming in one case about a two hour drive. I understand that their is more labor involved than with the large rounds. But, that's pretty good money. Just thought that I would throw the concept out for discussion.

I always have a good assortment on hand. Tie down points, not enough. I may weld on rub rails or D-rings between the stake pockets. The D-rings that I put in the center of the fenders were easy. I just added a couple of pieces of angle to the vertical brace. I want to add more D-rings in the area where the fender curves down. That will involve a bit more bracing.
