David,
I've had time to think it through very carefully after watching the videos and noting your responses of overwhelming pleasure to the different posts. So in the interest of all, I'll give you $1 for the new toy and take it off your hands. That way you'll have time to quit grinning, having fun and get back to serious work!:D If you choose not to take this generous offer, I understand but be warned I can't go any higher.
Keith

Operating from the rear would present more dangers, mainly from the PTO, but other then that, I would say about the same as if you were running a rental selfpropeled unit. I would stay in the tractor, you have more control, and you can reposition the tractor as needed. It also prevents anyone from accidently jumping in the seat. Great videos!

Acme - Not from the Rear (AAAAACK that would be crazy). I was thinking from the rung/step to get in the tractor, from the side. But it was no bad from seat, I just could not see how deep I was cutting.

I've had my Woods TSG50 for a year now. Ground over 500 stumps with it. No prep around the stumps prior to grinding them....and all are dug about 8" below ground level so I can run my disc and tiller. Same teeth.....and they still cut like new. I pay no heed to dirt....and my dirt is quite sandy...but no rocks to speak of.

I have 25 PTO HP on my 3320. Its adequate....but one can always use more HP. The size / weight of a smaller tractor would be of concern to me more than the power (such as your 2520) but for limited, occasional use, smaller cuts, I can see it working.

Glad to see another Woods TSG50 owner. WTG David! Good videos!

Foggy - You make me feel BETTER! I have 100's of stumps!

The teeth are carbide, removable, sharpenable, replaceable.

David (hello, fellow Virginian!), I've been strongly considering one of these stump killers and have heard nothing but good things about them. Can you tell me what's involved in attaching/detaching them?

It was very easy. 2 rear remotes, 3pt hitch, used the unit to lever the top link inot place. took minutes, just a few minutes it all.

Good question. I would like to know if it is quick hitch compatable also....?....

I don't know on quick attach. I'd be interested if it is.

Be well,
David

For those of you wondering about hydraulic alternatives......I used my loader's joystick valve to control both the sweep and the height cylinders. Works pretty slick and did not require lots of new plumbing!!

When operating the grinder you could either remove the loader or connect it to another hydrauclic circuit (which is what I do - the SCV circuit). This is the "pooh-mans" way to operate the grinder....and for many.....would not require extra hydraulic options. (except quick couplers and longer hoses)

There is quite a bit posted on these Woods grinders previously......search for "grinder" or "stump" to get hours of reading. The TSG-50 and my FEL grapple are among my most-favored implements.....and good values too!

I have a joystick control on my TSG-50 and it works nicely. I did put a flow restrictor valve on each hydraulic line so I can slow down the sweep as much or little as I desire. I think I paid something like $11 for some new teeth for spares but I certianly have not needed them. Don't buy teeth from the farm stores that charge $25 each for sure. I do have a Delta Hook quick hitch on mine, but this is not the same kind of quick hitch you are talking about. You would have to check the PTO swing to see if a QH would work.

WOW, just watched the videos! Way nice David!! That would have saved me a lot of time last winter. My vote would be to run it from the seat, I saw how much it jumped when it fed a little fast, wonder how much jump when it hits a rock or a really hard knot?

Wonder how long it would take on a big stump?

Rick,
That is a HUGE Stump! I'm going to run it from the seat and maybe check it from the side once in a while. This stump I KNOW was a soft wood. I'm looking forward to testing it on a big oak stump. Luckily MOST of my stumps are Pine, then Poplar & Maple, then various Oaks, and a couple locust and walnut (those will be a @#$% I am certain.

DaBear,

Hook me up on the $11 teeth! I need hat info!

I have RED restrictors on the pessure side of both the sweep and the depth.

Thanks,
David

Foggy,

My tractor came with one rear remote, and the second was only $149, so I intended for 2 rears all along (I thought I was going to get a top and tilt kit).

But for my land clearing I need the grapple and the grinder interchangebly so I could not use the FEL hyd lines.

The TSG-50 was my wife's idea, and kinda last minute added to my bill soI did not get to do a ton of research so I was nervous. I am THRILLED to hear your testimony. Thanks.

Be well,
David
