That is one of the meanest grapples I've seen. Why would you need guards on the cylinders? Are you going to be pushing brush with the lids closed? It looks like they're well protected to me.

You'll notice below that the lids on our Wicked Grapples are designed to protect the cylinders very well from underneath.

The cylinders are tough but it's the little hose fittings on the cyls. that are veunerable. With a log/brush grapple, they are generally in some tough & unpredictable working situations.

Boy that is a fact about hose fittings that I learned after getting our first backhoe a few years ago. I finally started buy TWO every time I broke ONE. That keeps me working more and fewer special trips to NAPA. I am sure in dirt work they will last 50 years but using both ends like it was a dozer clearing trees the limbs seem to aim for the hose fittings.

In those cases, the likelihood of busting a line on your tractor is probably about as high.

Lines are not a problem if they are healthy. So far only blown a couple of the 30 year old hoses on the hoe. We have a policy if a 30 year old hose gets removed in the process of servicing/repairing we just replace it if replacing it later would take more than 10 miles. Like when we had to replace the O-rings where a valve body bolts to the transmission housing we replaced the two main hoses feeding the hoe because outer skin was missing as well as the wire layer under the outer later because it was just a matter of time before one was going to blow or get ripped off clearing ground.

Well I finally got around to installing the kit, or attempting it. I got started and found out that I have an inlet tube missing. It is part #7J275-84290. Maybe someone has one laying around, if any of you guys have installed the third function kit on anything bigger than a l3540 you might have the extra tube. The kit I got fits the L3240-L3540, L3940 and L4240-L5740 tractors. I guess its all the same except for the tube that attaches to the bottom of the hyd. pump. I'd gladly pay for it if someone has one. I just don't want to pay Kubota $100 plus for a new one.
