I H 706: No Brakes

We have an I H 706 D that has not got any brakes, push on pedal goes to stop on floor with minimum resistance. The tractor has steering , lift, P T O, and T A works. we've bled the lines and tried priming the pump by using the remotes with a hose attached to the bottom port of the M C V . I could use some help figuring this out. Thanks in advance, CowPaddy52

I'm dealing with an International 606 with bad brakes. Mine is all mechanical brakes.

There are two drums. One on each side of the tractor just in front of the rear differential. About 1' in diameter and 6" deep. Those are the brake drums. Driven by a splined shaft with a series of plates on it. In theory it is relatively straight forward to disassemble to rebuild without having to remove tires hubs, etc.

A rebuild kit for mine was readily available with disks, springs, and big ball bearings.

In my case, the brake friction disks were worn paper thin. There should be an adjustment nut.

However, the disks were also rusted solid onto the shaft to the point they couldn't easily be removed.

An air hammer made quick work breaking them free. A little more work cleaning. I'm going to try an air powered needle scaler to clean the shaft.

Then I need to start painting and reassembling.

They also have what looks like a big freeze plug (2 7/8") that is completely missing on both sides. I don't know what it needs. But I would like to cover them up to reduce moisture ingress.
