Last: again beacuse of the heavily wooded areas, should seriously think of NOT getting a cab? Anyone have experience with that?

I'll tell you what my dad told me when I was shopping..... "If you cant afford a tractor with a cab, you shouldnt be even shopping for a tractor"
I would never consider buying a tractor without a FACTORY Cab....Period, end of that discussion.

My dad "Hobby Logs" with his Kubota L2900/Laurin Cab, got a Fransgard winch on it and it works great in the woods...just gotta be more careful where you go and to plan accorindly when blazing a trail. I've got a few trails here and I built them accordingly so I can get my 3520 Cab in and out of them with no issues...

One idea....and this is MY feeling...but I feel you get a better deal if you get the Tractor "Bare"....just the necessary pieces (Tractor & Loader only)....My former boss bought a Kubota "Package Deal"....tractor, loader, attachments, mid mower, etc.. and I think he wayyy over paid...he coulda shopped around for all the attachments and gotten it cheaper.

i don't have a cab and my fenders, rops, etc. take a beating.....and i haven't even tried to start in to the woods (maybe a little)....

just bush hogging around trees, etc. rubs, scraps and smacks the tractor...and i really do watch and try to take extra care of my stuff....the neighbor helping me clear ground (4" and less trees) said his cab was taking a beating and was a little concerned......

however, once your land is cleared, and depending on what you want to do (lot's of bush hogging) then a cab would be great!

as to not buying used, yes, tractor values tend to stay right up there with new......but there are deals.....i bought my TLB with extra goodies for about 2/3 cost of new....it's in excellent condition and only had 271 hours on it....also, i looked hard for about 3 months and on and off for about 2 years.....

IMHO, you do NOT need a 100 hp class tractor...what, specifically, are you planning to do that requires this much hp?

I have 200 plus acres and do just fine with a 50 hp category tractor.

Recommend you price a Kubota in the 57 hp range with hd bucket, 4wd, HST, 2 rear hydraulic circuits, quick attach, whatever else you need.

FYI, when I was looking, for the same $ I could either get a green tractor without a cab or box blade or an orange one with 260 hrs on it with cab and box blade and quick attach and HST and hay spike. Guess which way I went?

I think you should start over and tell what you are planning to do with your tractor. Where are you located, that makes a differerence in dealer pricing also. JC

I'm thinking of looking at the previous or outgoing models e.g. 5425 and seeing if he can make me a better deal. I mean, it's not that big a farm and do I really need 105 HP?

Last: again beacuse of the heavily wooded areas, should seriously think of NOT getting a cab? Anyone have experience with that?

Thank you all so very much -- i check this forum now about five times a day!

I have a couple hundred acres that includes some heavily wooded areas. Still I would personally NEVER consider one without a cab if you plan to spend much time on it. The couple of times you may have to watch your cab is nowhere close to the advantages of being warm in the winter, cool in the summer, having no bug bites, staying clean, helping with any allergies, being quieter etc., etc. For me, that would be the biggest no-brainer in the history of the world!

A 5425 or 5525 would be very capable. I also agree with the others that your prices quoted are completely out of line, especially for your additions. Some 100% to 200% too high. Good luck!

Your location has a lot to do with prices...also why not price out a new 5000E Select series cab machines, they will be MUCH more affordable than the 5000M series...good luck.

So I'm going to close on the Farm--100 acres with 25 of them cleared for pasture. I would like to clear some of the woods...

So I need a tractor -- but geez!

You would think i'm getting gold plated stuff here...but this is what i'm quoted:

JD 5105M $55188.95
FEL 563 farm loader 6500.00
PHD with 9" auger 2700.00
Box Blade Long Grapple Bucket 78"-->$3000.00
PC1072 Field Cultivator-->$743.00
709 Rotary Cutter --->$5378.81

73,509 plus tax.........

I think I should price out the KIOTI?

HELP!

PHD price is wrong, unless it's a hydro driven model??

Agree on the pallet forks, they are super handy!!

How about a flail instead of a rotary cutter?? Check out agrisupply, they sell a Caroni 6' that is great, and a great deal.

Here are some companies I've found for good deals over the last 6 or 8 months I've had my tractor:
agrisupply
the smart farmer
carter and carter machinery
markham welding (really good deals on grapples!!)
horst welding/HLA
kodiak implements
craigslist/ebay/buysell.com/etc...

Hope that helps,

-Jer.

Well... there's certainly a bright side to this process, too! :D :D

You now know that that particular dealer is a TOTAL waste of your time and you can move on.

As well, you can recognize that 105hp for 25 acres (or 40ac when finished clearing) is probably not something you wanna fall on your sword about, either!

That 5325 for $39.8K would do everything you need to do on your 25-40 acres -- and do it in comfortable; STYLE!

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I think that dealer saw you coming.

I like to check prices on Tractorhouse.com and ebay, especially on used equip and implements. Tractorhouse has new equip also. Kind of gives you a basis of what things are selling for.

Buy the way, just cause you have a john deere tractor, doesnt mean you have to use john deere implements. SOme of the best implements are made by Woods, Rhino, and Bushhog, and are usually priced way lower. Now I would definatly get the JD loader for the tractor, but BB I would go Woods, Cutter either Bushog or Rhino, and PHD, as long as it is solid, You cant go wrong. And 100hp is a lot of tractor for a General Use Machine.
Find a dealer that will work with you and give you a package deal. I would accept nothing less than 10% off what you find prices at on the internet. You are spending a lot of money and they will work with you.
