I HATE grease guns!

Me too.

I was surprised when HF gave me a new one for their rechargable 12V that just sort of "came apart" while I was reloading it.

I put the whole mess in a transparent plastic bag, and the girl behind the counter didn't even want me to open it to show her what had happened.

While the HF unit is far better than any hand-operated gun I have seen or used, it is far from what I would call good.

Of course greasing is sort of like pumping septic tanks: there are very bad ways to do it, bad ways, and not-too-bad, but there sure aren't any good ways.

I have the 12v Lincoln grease gun, and I'm happy with it. Although greasing still sucks, it's a lot more tolerable with a battery powered gun.

None of that needing three hands like the lever style gun that I have. No cramped up hands from a pistol type gun. Just get the hose on the Zerk, and a couple of quick hits with the trigger and your good to go.

I even use the 12v battery for testing stuff I intend to put on the tractor (e.g. indicator lights, switch circuits).

I didn't get the 14.4v gun as it wasn't available when I bought mine.

Does the Lincoln have a way to lock the trigger off? Sort of like a safety.

The one I have doesn't and if I happen to pick it up wrong, it immediately starts pumping grease everywhere.

I broke down last year and bought the 12v Lincoln..BIG difference.. with all the zerks on my machines... pumping by hand (sometimes against my leg, seeing I don't have a third arm) was becoming a real job before I even started working. Now it's still a pain..but not as dreaded as before...;) Clean around the zerk, press on, squeeze the trigger.. repeat.. til I hit em' all.

I have an all wheel drive IH dumptruck, a full size hoe, a compact utility, a full size pickup and 2 smaller tractors, probably 200 zerks total. I've had the 14.4V Lincoln for ~3 years now and it works pretty good. However, one of my fellow backhoe owning buddies just burned up the motor on his 12V right in front of me while greasing his CASE. He said it was at least 7-8 yrs old, so I guess that's not too bad.

My Craftsman air pneumatic grease gun is giving me fits and I am looking for something better. It makes noises but sometimes that's all it does. Maybe it's greasing and maybe it's not. Sounds like from what I am reading here the Lincoln 14.4 volt seems the way to go. Manual is not an option for me unless I grow a third arm and hand.

Had a 12v for 5 years and used it to grease my semi truck and trailer weekly and anything else I had to grease. Battery was getting weak and was not lasting very long (after five years) Great gun but upgraded six months ago to a 14.4 and love it. Either one will work great for you. You won't be sorry.

I had a harbor freight gun - pneumatic, and it worked for 2 cartridges. Threw it away in disgust, and bought a Lincoln Pneumatic. So far so good... I hope I haven't cursed myself, but my only regret is the price so far - around $100.

AIr hose doesn't really bother me - I'm used to trailing one on a ladder, on the ground is no problem.
