I hate hooking up my bushhog!

I second 'cityfarma's' technique if you store the mower on concrete. I use 2 of the trolley's on a 7' BushHog. 3 point hookup is easy and the blade turns easily so the pto is easy as well. I have other stuff on dollies consisting of nice new pallets that were headed for the dump and heavy steel casters sold on ebay for $3-5 each. It is nice to be able to move stuff around and out of the way. In fact, one bolt out of the 7' mower hitch lets the brackets lay down to where the mower is less than 2' tall resting on the trolley's. I used the trollies on the mower instead of the pallet so I could roll the mower under some other equipment. Enough rambling for now!

I have a JD MX6 and too hook up to the pto is a nightmare. It is of the pull push type and I do lube the splines. Still sometime it can be a bear. Does anyone make a locking collar that I can replace the factory one with? Thanks!

Is the MX6 new and going on a new tractor?

When I bought my JD4720 and MX6 new - it was a real pain. Almost 3 years later - it goes on much easier. A little lube helps. Heavy grease makes it attract dirt and can make it even harder. You might want to use smoe parts cleaner on both items (brake cleaner). Get them cleaned up and use some light lube on them.

I keep it pretty clean even spray the PTO to help slide it on. The non-locking collar is the problem. The pin type was much more user friendly I think.

Turkeyman, don't know what type of tractor you're dealing with, but on most, the output shaft of the tractor will turn easily by hand about 2 or 3 splines worth. It is much easier to turn the output shaft to match the coupler than to turn the implement to match the shaft.

Willis Fecon, I sure hope I misunderstood you. Are you saying that you run your shredder without the PTO shaft fully engaged and locked? Please tell me I read your post wrong.

Got a great idea from a similar thread here a couple years ago. Park your shredder with the stump jumper resting on an old tire. That gives it some "gee and haw" to get it hooked up. I have most of my implements inside on casters. I just don't have room for the shredder.
I re-read my post and I dont see where I said, I didnt engage the PTO shaft all the way. The only thing I said about that was, if you push it past the locking groove, on my application, its harder to disconnect

I have an LX-6 and the pto shaft end is the sliding collar type. It is a bit fiddly to try to slide the collar back while pushing it onto the output shaft.

But I have an easy fix for this: a teenage son. He pushes on the shaft while I hold the collar back. Works like a charm. Teenage sons can be real handy. But, they are very expensive, can be mouthy, aren't always there when you need them and this one wants to leave home to go to some redneck finishing school called Clemson next year. So it may not be the best solution, but it works for now.
