"The rattle snake thing is not a joke. There are a couple known small populations in NY and VT. Nobody is telling where they are else folks like us would go get rid of them before they get to be a problem."

Watch program no to long ago..Outdoors..film in Vermont saying what you wrote, state even has the area off limits.

Heard many times over the decades, when they were putting I91 area Ascutney,Vermont stir timber rattlers.

There are and have been Rattlesnakes here for a long time,in 1956 the kid in my class mother got bit by a Rattler in Hooksett .NH mowing the lawn,In 1980's they had a police chief showing off a live Rattler in Pembroke that he caught and released.Fish and Game has acknowledged that there are Rattler.s here but will not say where they are located.

My grandfather told me that there were allot of rattlers at Heads quarry in Allenstown back in the 1920's there was Rattle snake hill in Hooksett that we were told to watch for rattlers back in the 60's when I was in the scout's.
The main concentration I believe is Auburn,Hooksett.Allenstown ,Pembroke, and into Bear Brook state park anything east of RT 3 But the woman that was bit in the 50's was by the Hooksett toll both on that outcrop of rocks they call the Pinnacle.

They've seen timberrattlers on Rt. 112 from Linclon to Conway.
Also,I've seen Black snakes there too;even caught one once while mowing roadsides. Maybe 3' as I remember.

The area & snakes extend east to Pawtuckaway state park in Raymond. F&G had a live timber rattler on display at the Amoskeg fish ladder this summer. It was the most active snake I've ever seen in captivity. A real handsome snake, but glad it was behind glass.
Two summers ago a friends dog got bit in the front paw behind her home in Alton. Vet claimed it was a rattler. Swelled up to the point the vet cut the skin to keep circulation going. Dog was pretty much back to normal in about 3 weeks. MikeD74T
