Us Yanks always think bigger is better. Often a disservice. In my Worldly travels (not down under yet) I always notice the use of midsize and mini size trucks is more popular. I know of 3, off the top of my head, 1 Ton, dually, crew cab, long bed, 4wd trucks around me that never haul anything or pull a trailer....
I saw one for you a couple days ago, a Chevy 1 ton dually, CC, LOWERED to the ground with maybe 24" or 26" wheels and super low profile tires. All I could think was what a waste of a vehicle, time and money... but it wasn't mine.

Mine is a 2.4Litre turbo intercooled diesel with a 3.1 tonne tow capacity, I tow our 23' yacht, about 2.5t, two horses in an extended float also about 2.5t, it does this through the hills without complaint, my only beef is the yacht that has overide brakes that thump in, the float has electric brakes but they are no good on a trailer that is used to launch and I am not about to fit hydraulics.
I bought this for the comfort factor too, all leather, climate control, auto lights, high beam, wipers, collision avoidance, lane departure etc etc etc, I'm getting older and lazy.
A tonne (1000kg) and a ton are so close it is barely worth converting

Then there are those who think that their small truck or minivan is perfectly suited for anything. As Exhibit A, I hold out the long running, popular "Towing and hauling wrong" thread up in the "Trailers and Transportation" forums.

Or get off paved roads.

Saw a Honda accord with a big fibreglass half cabin cruiser on the back, police had him pulled over, I was surprised he got as far as he did with the load likely exceeding the weight of the car, and front wheel drive.
