The elusive quad post.

Wow, what a conclusion. Did the guy leave with a wrench bent around his knucklehead?

No, but I did contact the manager to make sure he understood what happened and that I will never trust their installation people again. I'll probably come home tomorrow and find my tank gone and a check for the propane I had in it.

Well, the conclusion sounds about right.

The sad part is. So many people are more apt to defend their poor performance or that of their employees than endeavour to improve it.

I took delivery of a new lawn tractor yesterday. I bought from a dealer vice a big box because I like to support small business, and, I felt like I would get better service.
I arrived home, and upon inspection, found that the oil was low, the gas had not been topped off, it had not been washed - and worse, the battery cables had not been bolted on,
but had been wedged in the holes of the battery terminals. 20 minutes was all it would have taken to properly prep the mower.
I could have bolted the cables on, but I called. They were very apologetic and said someone would come out today to rectify. Nice response, but could have been avoided.

That's why I end up doing almost everything I can myself. I don't trust others to do a good job, I have had too many bad experiences.

I have had a few good contractors and I continue to use them but they still do just enough to get the job done the easiest way possible. I understand they have to make money and can/will not take the time I would. That is why I only use them for the things I don't mind not being perfect.

I have a slightly different philosophy: I can do a bad job just as easily as they can! Or even easier! And there's some chance I might do it right, and at least I'll know what was done.

Pirate, I would be SO FAR BEYOND pizzed off!!! Doubt I would be as calm and collected as you! Congratulations on your blood pressure!

When we built our house, we decided to use the "better" contractor in the area, despite maybe being 5-10% higher than the lowest cost. We are SO glad we did. They were super cooperative to work with us to do things differently than they are used to - they just framed and dried-in. We did or contracted out all the finish work ourselves. And they allowed us access to their "regular" trade contractors for the things we farmed out, as long as we were flexible on schedule to not interfere with THEIR jobs. THAT was a delight - all of the pre-vetted subs we hired did exemplary, craftsman-level work with very little supervision on our part.

It is sad to know that our experience was NOT typical.

Small claims might be a good idea.

Small claims might be a good idea.

I contacted the regional manager today and invited him out on his way to visit the local place. I doubt he will visit but I did make him aware of what happened. We'll see.

I sent my Subaru WRX to a specialist tuner for some engine work. The engine is bolted to the transmission with several different length bolts. When they removed it, they found the shop had put some of the short fasteners in "long" holes, and cut down some of the long bolts to fit in the "short" holes. Meaning it was more work to do it wrong than to do it right......
