I have a L3800 with maybe 10 hours on it. I as working the the hoe yesterday and all of the sudden it started making like a squeaking noise when I would move the hoe from side to side. If I would move it to one side and let go of the lever, the hoe would stop and shake from the stop and that is when you would hear the noise. I got off of the machine and grabbed the boom and shook the hoe back and forth and it would start making that noise. Not real loud, but almost like something needed greased. i checked of of the fittings and they are all greased. Here is the weird part, the noise is coming from inside the boom. If you look at the picture where I have it circled, the noise sounds like it is coming from the inside of the boom right behind the Kubota decal. The only thing in there are the hoses of what I can see. I looked for cracked welds, but didn't see any. Any thoughts?

Shouldn't be anything in there that squeaks, just the hoses. I'd regrease all the fittings (even if they looked greased) and go from there. Might be just one area that's lacking some lube.

Check that hoses are routed properly, they could be binding or rubbing on something when the boom moves.

Probably just a line possibly rubbing on another one or the boom itself. get a light and look inside and get an idea where it might be coming from and then isolate it with old inner tube or readjust the line by the fittings.

While this may not apply to your specific case, I had a squeak in my loader that would not go away with the normal greasing and ended up greasing all the points in both fully extended and retracted conditions. After doing the double greasing everything is quiet now so sometimes the grease does not always make it all the way around a joint.

its a bird with a nest inside of the boom!!!:laughing:

=============

i would do what David_Kb7uns notes. fully extending and retracting and double grease. i so hate greasing. i do it enough, but for the life of me, there always seems to be on more grease zert i never knew about before.

for me and the old ford 555c loader backhoe. there is some were in the holes and pins. and sometimes i have to turn it on. and reposition the hoe so i can get grease in and around some spots. due to the weight of the hoe and the position it is in. just won't let the grease get around everything.

possibly a pressure relief valve allowing hydraulic oil to be by passed? seeing that i see snow, i would assume it rather cold, and more so the hydraulic oil. if the backhoe is ran off of the PTO of the tractor. the oil in the hoe may not get warm enough, and if case perhaps using a lighter weight oil in it. and causing some problems, if hoe runs off of hydraulic remotes on tractor. then it might be a different story.

then again *i honestly do not know*

nice clean looking hoe....nothing i hate worse than a filthy hoe.

sorry..it had to be said

I had the same thing happen to me and found it to be the sub frame was loose ...

Routing of hoses, double grease with hoe retarcted and extended. That is where I would start. Mine was doing the same thing and it was grease (or lack of) that was causeing that. If it makes a loud whine while using it, a metal coupling on a hose sometimes touch a piece nof metal and rerouting takes care of that.

BTW, your title made me ALMOST post a funny...

Those darn mice! It could be the squeak is being transferred to that point of the boom.

When my hoe makes a noise....I put a pillow over it. I pay good money and expect a hoe to be well lubed. :D

After 10 hours use on my NH hoe I was surprised at how many bolts needed tightening.

Well, after 0 hrs all the bolts fastening attachments to the tractor needed tightening. [:(] After 820 hrs of hard use they have not re loosened.

My hoe makes a lot of noise sometimes too......some yelps, screams and heavy breathing......

Darn this went into the gutter quick! Gotta have a sense of humor though!

Thanks for all of the input. You guys are crazy. I have to watch how I word my headings. :) I guess I asked for it though.

I am going to grease all the joints again. It doesn't sound like it is coming from a joint though, it sounds like it is inside the boom. I used the BH allot over the weekend and the noise is still there. What is weird is that the noise just start after using the hoe for awhile, it didn't make any noise at first.

The sub frame thought is also a good thought. I remember when I purchased the machine, the sales person did tell me to check those bolts after using the machine for awhile.

I'll let you know what I come up with.

I got home from work yesterday with all intentions of finding the squeaking noise to find out the noise was gone. I did however go over the sub frame mount bolts to make sure they were tight and they were. It almost had to be lack of grease somewhere that didn't quite reach an area of a pin or something and now it finally reached it. I have no other idea what it could have been. Just hope it doesn't come back.
