The used pump off A 4010 I picked up is exactly the same as the pump we have. Apparently that's the way they are supposed to be.

Are you positive you have hyd pump oriented correctly? I've never seen destroking screw pointing down or stroke control adjusting screw pointing up on JD frt hyd pumps.

This scares me. The pics in the book show as you describe. The fittings on the used pump I got are in the same positions as the fittings in my pump. So that would make the pump oriented the same as what I took off."

I questioned the guy I got the used pump from and he said the back of the pump could not be rotated and the oil ports would not line up.

I'll have to dig deeper before I install.

Would the pump work if the back plate was rotated 180 degrees?

i AM ASSUMING THE PUMPS ARE IN THE CORRECT CONFIGURATION. We went down and looked at the neighbors 4010 and his pump is the same as these 2. So we are 3 for 3 all the same.

When we checked the screen in my old pump there were grooves wore into the rin from the spring.

The used pump I got makes a clicking noise when you turn it by hand. I am wondering if that pin also has grooves wore in it and the spring is clicking

Looking for the torque spec for the inner tie rod end bolt - You have a range of 55-80 ft.-lbs.

Tighten to 55 ft.-lbs. If the slot for the cotter pin lines, install it. If not, continue tightening to line up the nearest slot. 80 ft. lbs. would be the max torque, to line up slots.

and the small 5/8 bolts that hold the front plate on. The 3/4" bolts I have at 300 ft lbs.

I still think stroke control screw should be on bottom & destroking screw on the top when hyd pump is installed correctly. I have no idea if pump head can be successfully rotated 180° on the pump body but I seriously doubt that it can be accomplished. Can you post a photo of your neighbors hyd pump?

Not able to post a photo of his tractor. It was hard enough to get past the grime to tell what was up and down,. LOL

The 1" plug that is opposite the screen plug was definitely on the bottom

Just for future reference, If you are only removing the lower SCV, You do NOT need to remove any lines from the upper SCV.

Sure wish I could have found decent instructions or a youtube video on that.

I ruined the return line and wasted hours getting one of the other lines off.

Cost me about a hundred dollars - probably more

Expensive learning process

I just got off the phone with a gentleman that has been repairing JD tractors since the 70's. He has his own business & overhauled 13 JD engines last yr & 7 engines this yr plus numerous clutch/trans/hyd repairs. He happened to have a JD 4010 in his shop for repairs. He stated the stroke control valve on hyd pump on this 4010 was pointing down. He stated if head on hyd pump was rotated 180° that the orifices wouldn't line up correctly & if pump body was rotated 180° when installed in tractor that pump wouldn't pump correctly.

That's exactly what the guy I bought the used pump from said.

I am looking for a back plate for the lower SCV. The SCV I bought was previously an upper. I do not think there is much wrong with my SCV. It leaked like a sieve but seemed to work fine

1963 John deere 4010. Looking for the torque specs for the 5/8 bolts - that have the beam/channel iron heads - that mount the front axle plate at the back of the plate. There is no hardness marking other than a bunch of circles one inside the other

On the SCV I am looking for torque specs for the hydraulic fittings that screw in the side and the back plate

The banjo bolt on the front hydraulic pump

I have a JIC fitting chart, but you never know, going into a piece of equipment. They might have their own specs

The plate(R49186)you're referring to shouldn't be very difficult to find as it fits many JD tractors both rowcrop & utility models. That plate is still available from your friendly JD dealer. If you would acquire a JD technical manual for your tractor it should have all the bolt torques listed.

I have a service manual and called the dealership. The 5/8 rear steering plate bolts are 170 ft lbs.

The 4 bolts that hold the back cover on the SCV are described as High Strength 3/8 x 1" Part number 19H 1731A - I have to find out if they are grade 8 or grade 5. The dealership said the bolts are to be torqued at 35 ft lbs. That's the torque for a grade 8 bolt. My SCV has grade 5 bolts which would be more like 23 ft lbs.

This is an online manual I use that is different from the book I have. A lot of the same stuff, but different page numbers and different info in places.
