just tried it a few times and nothing. will charge again and try or leave charged before the rain comes and i sit with a low/dead battery.

last year and this year i swore i would start it before it got real cold or the stuff hits the fan but last year and worse this year it was pretty cold and storming/raining badly so to drain the battery and not be able to plug in safely to charge outside i was kind of stuck. If i were up in NY i would have a heater or hopefully a shelter and alsobe using it more at this time of the year. with mud tough to do even though there is plenty of wood and chips to move and stack/store.

i was going to say - last year when i had the issue and snow to move - 2 or 3 days later it warmed up into the 40's glow plugs 1 cycle and started right up! that may be the case this despite the diesel additive. I was generous in using it too.

Some people keep the battery in the house except when using the tractor. Warm batteries work better.

If you have electricity at the tractor, your easiest solution is a simple electric hair dryer. Just remove the air filter cap, turn you hair dryer on hi heat and blow the hot air into the air filter while cranking over the engine. No glow plugs needed. I use to have to start my old 4220 Yanmar that way since it had not glow plugs.
Blowing that hot air directly into the engine is way better than glow plugs anyway. It doesn't do anything for the cold thick engine oil though so take it easy on the throttle till your engine warms up a bit. If you are living in a sub artic zone, a block heater is almost a must to have OR a magnetic attached oil pan heater. Either of these would help the oil circulation problems. A good synthetic 0W-30 engine oil would work also.

PS Might be best if you bought your own hair dryer rather than pinching the wife's. Less hassle in the long run. It don't need to be fancy with 6 different heat settings, just a simple $15 one should work well.

well notta. anyway - i love my machine and that is why i bought after very careful thought. 3/4 of the year - wow! the few times i need it for snow in winter it is a freakin dud!!! last yeear not knowing about gelling until my first experience - and thanks to you people here for telling me about diesel gelling.... i never owned a diesel before. so this year i was prepared and wham - BS> I am quite ticked i have neighbors with orange and green and they keep outside or unheated areas and 1 guy beats the **** out of them and they seem to have no issues. well end of my rant.... I am just ticked! otherwise i love the machine!

Don't know if anyone has suggested but have you cleaned the ground connection off the battery were it meets the frame? Just had a 3016 in that turned over fine but just smoke... it was getting enough to turn the engine but not enough connection to actuate the plugs. put 12 to the plug rail and she popped right off... cleaned up the ground and good to go.

i cleaned the terminasl a couple of months back but not to the frame? stupid question where is it located? and i take it it is the negative DUUUUHHHH!

follow the ground from the battery to were it connects to the frame of the tractor. unbolt it and clean both the frame and ground connector really well.

I had the same problem yesterday. Engine cranked but would not start. No smoke from stack. Fuel was getting to the fuel filter. Took off filter and found water frozen in the bottom of the retainer cap. I guess it was from condensation in the fuel tank. You might want to check your fuel filter.
