The wife and I jumped in the SUV to run to WalMart for some Rotella oil. On the way back I looked in the rear-view mirror and noticed a Summit County, Sheriff car following me but didn't think much about it. I needed to make a quick stop at our local IGA and as I made the turn in I noticed that he followed me into the parking lot. After I parked the cruiser rolled up behind our car. The first thing that I thought was crap "ticket time". /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But when the officer came up to the side of my car he had a clip board and announced that we were being given a courtesy "citation" by the Summit County Sheriff's Office and a thank you for using our seat belts. He handed me an envelope that was filled with coupons from local businesses.

There was a $10. gift card for merchandise at Lowe's.
A complimentary exam for our dog at a local vets office.
2 Buy one get one free tickets to the Aeros baseball games.
4 car wash coupons.
Burger King meal coupons.
Friendly free sundae coupon.
2 doughnut discount coupons.
4 Quizno's sub discount coupons.
2 Bowl free coupons
And several other worth-while coupons along the same lines from other local businesses.

They also took my name, address, and phone number for a grand-prize drawing to be held in early September. The winner will get 2 tickets for a ride on the Goodyear Blimp. Now that would be a ride to remember for a lifetime.

Has anyone else ever heard of a program like this in your area? This is all new and totally unexpected to me. What a great way to say thanks to the people that use their seat belts!

I gotta start going to WalMart more often. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's a good thing you didn't run, eh?

I got one of those, but without the coupons. The next week I got a ticket. <shrug> I'd rather be invisible.

I'm suprised that the cop left the donut coupons in the envelope.

Maybe there were originally four donut coupons? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I gather wearing seat belts are not compulsory where tou live?Up here you get a hefty fine for omitting to buckle up, your insurance company will be notified of the infraction and your premium goes up, you get caught a few times and you lose your license. That law has been around for as long as I can remember,it is no joke, even the bad guys dont forget to fasten up during the car chase after the botched bank robbery.

I can't say going to Walmart is a good practice, but wearing your seat belt certainly is whether or not it's the law. I'll bet that was quite a surprise. Now if they would start doing the same thing on the Interstates for not yapping on a cell phone or speeding, or even stupider acts, the police might have a winner on their hands.

Well now, here is a post I can really use ( just kidding, I get tons of useful info off this board)
Summit County huh? I wouldn't mind stealing their idea, and in fact I just might.
We have the "Click it or Ticket" road checks down here quite often, and we have given away teddy bears, etc for the kids, but I have never thought about giving Mom and Dad something.
Beats writing them tickets......
Again, TBN comes through for a tractor owner...

Since you already admit to dishonesty, I am going to presume that you will be keeping the donut coupons. </font>

Hey Bob, you could put a smiley at the end? That is if you were joking. If not disregard this post.

Bob thats good humor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

DieselnHooters Ohio does have a seatbelt law. They are always talking about click it or ticket here on the radio. That's what surprised me the most about this deal. Kinda like saying, "Thanks for not breaking the law." Still it was nice to get a thank you instead of a ticket for a change.

And I don't mind using the coupons..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
