Billy, I find that using emoticons allows people to realize I am joking. Not using them makes them wonder if I am joking. When I was a kid one of the old guys in the area called me the wonder kid because he always wondered what I would say/do next. I think a little uncertainty gives people time to think before they laugh, and often just at the irony of the situation they face.

It'd been real /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif if it had one "get out of speeding ticket" coupon

Guess they gotta pay for those other coupons somehow though

Not with the coupons, but I remember my grandmother getting stopped in Ardmore, OK, about 50 years ago and thought she was going to get a ticket, when the officer only complimented her on her driving and gave her a card the department had printed up for exceptionally good driving habits.

Why would a cop need donut coupons anyways? Don't most donut shops give them free donuts anyways? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Billy, I suspect Bob was just joking....
I still think it is a good idea to remind folks that we appreciate them, instead of every encounter on the side of the road being perceived as negative.....
But before I "steal" the Summit County Sheriff's idea, I will give him a call....
We have a thing here we call STOPPED...that is where parents can register their teenagers car with a sticker and provide 24/7 phone numbers so our patrol deputies can contact parents on first offenses instead of taking enforcement action...with Georgias restrictive drivers license laws now, it is easy to loose that limited permit....
Give the parents a chance to be parents instead of nailing every 16 year old who rolls thru a stopsign...esp where there is no crash, etc......

My mom would sometimes look at me and say, "Sometimes I wonder about you... other times I'm sure." /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We're not always out to get you!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I stop folks to warn them of low air pressure in their tires, gas cap off, etc.....

I love cops and they are mostly pretty good Joe's. This is nothing to brag about but I get stopped pretty regularly. You see.. I drive fast, always have always will and never wear my seat belt. You would think someone only 5 months away from his 60th birthday would learn but I haven't. Luckily I do most of my driving out of state and the tickets do not show up on my driving record, just getting expensive. I could probably buy a new tractor if I had all the money I have spent on tickets in my life.

Was stopped in-state last summer for speeding and the officer asked me why I wasn't wearing my seat belt. My answer was honest "Never do, but I will put it on before I drive off". He ended up just giving me a warning for speeding and a lecture on the seatbelt but no ticket.

I have slowed down a little, several years ago I received 13 tickets in one year and this was with a radar detector. Can't count the number of time the RD saved my butt, don't leave home without it.

Oh and no one will ever be able to convince me that speed is any more dangerous than someone doing 60 on a interstate posted 65. Speed doesn't cause accidents Idiot drivers that aren't paying attention, drunk or asleep is what causes accidents.

Me too, but I got a ticket /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Not that it wasn't deserved. I was kind of day dreaming - just trucking along with traffic, failing to realize that I was that far over the speed limit.
