You should have seen the expression on the face of our youngest son when his mother took him to the DMV and recinded his minority permission to have a driver's license. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Different Dave, but I'll take a stab, since I driven through cicles in NJ, MA, TX, MD, and Europe. Read the signs & watch the other cars are doing, and if you are confused slow down and let the people blow their horns at you. Every state seems to have their own rules and in NJ every circle has it's own rules. My first driving lesson involved going through the Somerville circle in NJ. Growing up there, I already knew the rules, but that circle had nearly 300 accidents per year before they eliminated one of the highways, and put traffic lights on each of the roads. The rules were simple. the two lane Route 28 had yield signs, so traffic in the circle had the right away. The four lane Route 202 North bound always had the right away. The four lane Route 206 North yielded to traffic already in the circle. The combined four lane Route 202/206 South had the right away entering the circle, but if you were planning on remaining on 206 then you yielded to 202 North. To make matter worse, Route 22 was only 1 mile away, and Interstate 287 was another mile further down the road, so there was a lot of traffic. I don't think everyone had the same interpretation of the rules, but thats why there were so many accidents.

I also lived in NJ and I always used the rule that once you entered the "circle" that the car to your right was going to exit and you would stay to the left to traverse the circle to your "exit" and move to the right when you were close to it. I have been back to NJ and a lot of the circles have been removed, but the traffic has become a lot heavier.
Now to move onto the next question. When 4 cars all arrive at a 4 way stop sign controlled intersection at the same time, which car goes first. I always yield to the car on the right and allow that car to go first, but if we all arrive at the same time, who yields to whom??? Everyone has a car to the right.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A few years back, the Alabama DOT had a program going on the week before the fall race at Talladega. The state trooper would look for people obeying the speed limit, weaaring their seat belt, etc. When you got pulled over, the guy riding with the trooper would get out and give you tickets to the race at Talladega. Who was the guy? None other than the late great Dale Earnhardt. Yep, Dale rode around with the troopers for a couple of days pulling people over and surprizing them with tickets and an autograph. Dale was on a local radio station talking about it.

Brent now that's a ticket I don't think anyone would mind getting. I wonder if Nascar is still sponsoring a similar event? Or maybe this was the personal idea of Dale Earnhardt himself?

Junkman,

That is exactly a question I always the ask participants in the Defensive Driving class I give to new employees.

Just out of curiosity, what is your answer to that question?

I'll tell you my answer if you tell me yours! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
