I can understand how you feel. I have had to do the same thing. It is not an easy thing to do - but it is easier then watching them suffer.

You did the right thing.

Sorry for your loss. It's hard to be the one to decide to put down a furry companion. We recently had to put down our dog we had since a pup, our kids grew into adults with her but it was time. She was going down hill quickly and looked miserable the last couple days. Still makes me well up thinking about it.

My wife and I had to put out 10 and a half year old dog down a week ago last Friday. She wasn't eating and was having a hard time getting up. She was bleeding internally from a ruptured mass on her spleen. It was a very emotional day and things like this bring it back but it was for the best. I don't think she had more than a day or two left either way. Once they stop eating and don't get up much it's close to the end from what I've experienced. They seem to go downhill quite quickly.

All these sentiments are in my heart. I now have a difficult time posting to these threads because of having to put down Ellie a month ago. When the tears flow, as they are now, typing is difficult.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Your story sounds like Mitey (Mighty) Golden Tally was that once in a lifetime horse above all others that you have owned or been aquinted with. The lack of a knicker greeting and the empty stall always get to me. For the non horse folks, it's like the empty house when a dog or cat or whatever has passed.

I don't know if I am wasting my time but I dispose of possums same as groundhogs around my place. Again, for the non horse folks, EPM is a neurological condition caused by an old age protozoan that possums pass in their feces. Horses then injest the "bug" as they graze.

I have always had the space and the legality to bury my horses on my property. When I maintain that area, I always feel like I am on hollowed ground and can feel their spirits.
