There's an old saying in the aviation world:

"There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no OLD BOLD pilots".

That's great, Mike, if you remember to turn the handle loose so the mower cuts off. A fellow who worked for me several years ago was doing the same thing; mowing a borrow ditch and had the mower uphill from himself, stepped back, stumbled, and fell, but held onto the mower handle, pulled it right back onto his feet, and spent a long, long time in the hospital. )</font>

Have had it happen to me twice. First time I didn't let go and realized that when falling (especially backwards) the last thing you will let go of is something you are holding on to. The second time I -did- let go but only because I consciously told myself to.

We were a bit slow here last week so one of my 18 year old packers offered to trim mow around my pond while I was mowing with the tractor. At lunch he tells me that despite my warnings he slipped in the wet grass and his foot almost went under the mower in the process. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I asked him why he just didn't let go of the mower during the fall. His response was that he didn't want to explain to me why the push mower went into the pond. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I then asked him how he would like explain to his parents and girlfriend the loss of a foot because he wanted to keep my mower high and dry. I have to wonder if he understood why I asked......

As a youngster I will admit that I made a lot of mistakes while growing up. I can also say that with each mistake I learned a lesson and went forward, hopefully not to ever repeat that same mistake again.

That is why I am only going to be married once!!! Some people never learn, even after the 4th or 5th time...../forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
