I need a salt/sand spreader

I have a bad driveway, steep and with a curve. It needs to be sanded after it's cleaned up. I'd rather not do it by hand so I've been thinking of a spreader that I can mount in a receiver I welded to my FEL bucket and wire to my electrical system. I don't want junk but $1000 seems a little steep. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with these.

Friend uses a seeder/spreader from TSC - has salt/sand/and stove cinders combined. He keeps it in a pit/box in his shead so it stays dry. Works great

I think they have an electric one for an atv as well.

From the looks of your drive, I think you'll need something with a decent capacity. I've used a cone spreader similar to the one pictured from TSC, but it is a King Kutter or Cosmo (all made in Italy) and has a 500#+ capacity and operates off my 3PH. Been very reliable for the past four winters, easy to use and was less money than the one pictured--I think just under $300 on sale. I put a sand and ice melt mixture in mine and the throw pattern is adjustable. Just something for you to consider....

I agree with the michelob. I just bought the KK/Cosmo 3ph/pto driven cone spreader and paid about $400 for it. I had a load of sand delivered prior to the snow fall. I used it for the first time the other day and it worked great. I did have to bounce the 3ph up and down a bit to keep the sand flowing. I think a coarser/bigger sand would work a little better then what was delivered but it was all I could get at the time.

Its been a learning process. They do hold a lot of material. One thing to consider, is using chains. My tractor has 4WD but I put my tooth bar on and backed down my driveway while the sand was being spread. This gave me some traction as I went down because I don't have chains yet but I wish did.

Your driveway looks like mine, except mine's in the woods with 2 curves. I just run the toothbar over it when things get slick to rough up the surface, then follow up with the back blade a bit off the ground to spread out the debris.

i use a 4n1 bucket.you can clean the drive with it and you do not have to hand load the spreader.i go through about 10/14 yds per winter

I have a spreader that I bought from CCM, I think a 500#. I wash that thing more than my socks and it still gets rusty, and that is just from lyme and fertilizer. I was thinking about using it for a sand/salt mixture, are these things rotting off the back of your tractor?
