Exactly! After reading all the great advice/input here I finally placed an order with furhatworld.com as they claimed to have hats up to XXL. Welll... just filled out the return order paperwork as no WAY what I got was anywhere near that size. Fit my wife quite well but had to tug hard to even get it on my head.
The problem is finding a big enough hat. Even Filson only shows XXL, which is 7-5/8. I wear an 8! Stormy Kromer goes up to an 8; I'm going to try one after I move from FL. In the summer, I wear Tilley hats, simply because they make 'em big enough.
Coincidentally I wanted a hat before we leave for FL next month. I'll have to look into the brands you mention here. In the meatime I guess I'll just have to make do w/ the silly looking double hat + scarf getup I'm using. Not quite what I'd prefer when out plowing snow in an open 4WD tractor with wind/snow whipping and temps well below freezing!
