I Need an Earth-Mover-Thingie-Doo-Dad

I have a lot of deep topsoil to move from a large area, and my FEL or a box blade would take forever. I don't have access to a dump truck either. Since I need to move the dirt several hundred feet, I would like to move at least a couple of yards per trip to avoid wearing me and my tractor out.

Has anyone built a pull-behind earth mover (or scraper, or whatever one would call them)? It seems very simple to design and build, but I don't want to re-invent the wheel.

I can envision something that is pulled with the draw bar, and the 3 Pt hitch would manipulate the blade and the dumping action. I could plow the topsoil and wait until it dries real fluffy because I have way more time than money. A long wheelbase should help prevent gouging, and result in nice level land on both the new area and the donor area. I hope I could pull it pretty fast and skim 2-3" at a time, and dump it in layers. Does this sound possible?

After the dirt project is finished, the implement would still be great for landscaping and road work. Any examples or ideas of such an implement?

Check out irrigation sites and attachments for leveling fields. The impliment you are looking for is on the market but perhaps for larger machines.

Don't know of too many options for CUT. Used to farm Cheneyville/Lecomte area and used land planes for contour and leveling, but took a 100hp more than you've got. Might could find one you could cut down to size. I've seen scraper pans also but still you wouldn't have the horseys to haul 5yds. It's cheaper to rent the right stuff than tear up a $20K tractor.

Hey, nice. I don't quite understand why it needs so much HP for such a small payload. Even hauling just under a yard, it looks like you could move a lot of dirt with it because you never have to stop or slow down.

I was thinking more along the lines of a big, low trailer with a scraper blade. Something I could fabricate. Something cheap.

Ill retake a few pics of a small pan I made when i was 14 in metal shop I pulled it behind an 8 HP Farmall Cub offset tractor. It was barely bigger than a regular 3 point scoop but could be made bigger for a modern tractor. Try to do a Google for Soil Mover scrapers they make a 2 yard pan for 2 000 dollars for a 25 to 30 hp tractor. Its also marketed under Durabuilt.
One other thing is to find an old fresno or tumble bug scraper they just drug on the ground on a thick heel and when you got to your fill you pulled a rope and it tumbled over emtying its load.

I was really looking for something I could fabricate myself, and would rather keep it mechanical. The one seen at http://www.hoelscherinc.com/prod_dbscraper.htm is a dream come true, but I don't have 4K to spend plus another big hit for hydraulics. I need something with a long wheelbase and a mid mounted scraper blade that won't make whoop-de-doos. Even the 4K beauty does not look like it would be easy to keep things level and bump free.
