The newer line of Craftsman tool boxes that you can find at Lowe's are all made in the USA. Brother in law just got a 52" bottom roller, soft close, latching drawers. Pretty good quality on par or better than the old Craftsman stuff.

Where did that information come from? Is it something you made up?

Looks like toolboxes are made in Sedalia, Missouri, if you watch the video. Knives, saws and rolling workshops are made in Cheraw, South Carolina. I know the new factory in Fort Worth makes ratchets, sockets, and wrenches.

Probably doesn't matter a lot what brand new box you get in the couple thousand dollar price range they are all similar in quality, capacity, etc more of a matter

I screwed that attempt to reply and qoute to this thread digitally I'm pretty illiterate 😂.

I've seen the tool boxes in person as I clearly stated in my post. The information is also out there for you to read, in plain English.

It's time to purchase a new roll cab tool box and upper as well. My ancient Waterloo double box has seen better days and I'm candidly out of room. I have one roll around just for SAE tools and another smaller one for Metric.

Been looking at the Harbor Freight Icon and US General tool boxes as well as the ones at Menards. Not gonna buy a tool truck Snap On or MAC box, just too expensive for me.

I need some input as to quality and personal experiences. I like the US General Series 2 boxes in Kubota orange naturally.

Don't want to take out a second mortgage for a tool box but I don't mind paying a couple grand for them either.

Input please???
I have several oversize boxes I like, one is an old stainless Sams club special buy, but my favorite is a Kobalt from Lowes. I also have the biggest Craftsman they sold so forty years back thats still going strong. Lowes handles the Craftsman line now which seems pretty good. The one I have is a Kobalt I got on sale. Highly recommend that one. if you are a veteran like me or have a friend who is, Lowes offers a ten percent discount even on sale prices. Makes them hard to beat. i run an antique auto business and my tool boxes are heavily used. Never had a problem with them and they are all more than a few years old. (So am I for that matter!) good luck inyour search.

We got a US General 30" 5-drawer from Harbour Freight for the stables. We keep tools and misc horse equipment in it. I was surprised at how heavy it was when I put it together. The latches have held up fine and it gets opened quite frequently. I wouldn't hesitate a bit at getting another one.

Bought one of these to use in the shop for general mechanic work. Socket set, end wrenches, hammers, air tools, ect.

check out the Tekton boxes made by Roussou in Canada, they are very high quality at a good price. built just like vidmar boxes. great dividers, heavy steel, great casters. no cheap drawer slides, its a steel carriage with real ball bearings ( races and balls) not just some balls in a stamped steel slide. I have the 60x30 and love it. i have never regretted the cost or thought I should have bought something Chinese. they have carts and boxes. way less cost than a snapon or matco, and built much better than them as well. I have full 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 socket sets, metric and std. wrenches, set of proto torque wrenches, and more in the top drawer alone, several hundred lbs or more, still opens and closes with one finger.

I bought the US General 56" roll a round several years ago to use at work. Put a Menards top on it because US General didn't have a top to fit it yet. They are both OK for the money. The casters were not the greatest. I think there are many more reasonably priced choices out there now. particularly roll a rounds with drawers that are deeper. My experiences with Craftsman ball bearing slide boxes were less than positive.

A small criticism of the Generals, is that only one side has the swivel wheels, the other side has fixed wheels with the lock down levers. In a smaller garage such as mine, 35 by 30 feet, going around parked stuff can be a challenge. I often don't want to pull the cabinet out of its normal position to get it closer to the work. This defeats the entire idea of a wheeled cabinet.

It can pay to keep your eyes open and (yes) perhaps fall into some luck.

I stumbled onto a full sized Snapon roller. Has two side cabinets hanging on it. Guy said he was fed up dealing with the public (think he was an auto repair guy given the tools he included)

I got:

1. All three (the full) cabinets, all Snapon
2. Full set of Snapon metric wrenches
3. Full set of Snapon SAE wrenches
4. Enough sockets to make a full 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" set, mix of Snapon & Craftsman
5. Air compressor (working)
6. Working generator though, a small one
7. Handful of diagnostic tools (auto A/C, computer reader machine, relay tester...)
8. Full set of Craftsman line wrenches, some S&W wrenches, some MAC wrenches

That's not all of it but it's the quickies that I can think of....

ALL for $1,500 BUT, I had to travel about 4 hours to get it. As it happened, my brother in law was in town. Was heading to Asheville, NC to visit his son, maybe 2-hours.... so he said he'd be happy to drive the next 2-hours to pick it all up for me.

it was like my lottery day.
