I bought a plastic white 55 gallon used drum about a week ago for $20.

The other day I got a used white 55 gallon drum for $17.

Here is a new 55 gallon drum, closed top with corrosion inhibitor coated on inside. $68 new. Used steel 55's run $20-$25, with no idea of what they were used for. Deal?

This place also has a palletized spill container or drum dolly for sale. Pallet may make more sense, easy to lift off of truck bed. I guess a wooden pallet would work also.

Best handpump/filter/nozzle combination? Northern has many to choose from.

The reality is that if you have a big enough fire it won't matter if it is in the house/garage or outside,
its gone. umes are worse than the liquid.

If the storage building with the diesel in it is 50 feet away from any other structure at least when /if it goes it won't take the house /garage and everything in them with it .

I stopped using a 55 gal. drum and instead I bought a 50 gal fuel tank from TSC. The drum is made of very thin metal compared to the drums of "yesteryear" that could be kicked off the back of a truck ... and as the distributor I bought the oil drum from said "don't try that with these drums of today" ... and yes the fuel tank is much more expensive but I sure feel better hauling it around than that drum. Islander - I don't think I would feel very good hauling fuel in the back of a SUV.

I can pick up a once used 55gallon steel drum locally for $16. I'd use it for fuel. The only prior use was one shipment of vegetable oil. How would (or would you) clean it before filling with diesel?

I went to a fuel distributor and told them i need 30 gallon of red diesel.
Since I didn't have anything to put it in with me they gave me a 55 gallon steel drum free.

Thanks for the advice! I ended up with a stainless steel 55 gallon drum, a Tuthill 12 volt, 15gph pump, auto nozzle, and cartridge filter from ebay (great price for the package new) and a heavy pallet.
I rinsed it out today and let dry for builing and filling next week end. This barrel was used for citric juice.I ended buying several barrels from the guy, two very clean clamp tops (they look new) and two 30 gallon plastic with handles for oil recycling. He even had clean 5 gallon plastic with lids.

If you're in Atlanta and need stainless steel barrels, give a PM and I'll give you directions to Jimmy, the barrel guy.
*What kind of prices on the drums?

If you are concerned, rinse with a couple gallons of deisel

To be honest, I am a bit baffled by this thread, as all the bulk fuel handlers I am familiar with have drums on hand. Either way, whomever is supply your fuel, should have ready access to clean and servicable drums for you at a nominal price.
I have a 55 gallon plastic drum that is going to take more than rinsing out?

The stuff in there is stuck on pretty good and tight.

Got any suggestions for that?

Pressure washer?

I have used 30g grease kegs for fuel.. easier to handle than 55g drums.. etc.

1*I have some of the older 55 gallon drums and I also have 1 of the current newer 55 gallon drums.
I don't see any difference in them.
2*I haul diesel in the new drum=no problem.

This appears to be a thread to call to the attention of the LBrown fan club. An inactive thread for eight months that LBrown manages to post to six times in one day. I'm impressed.
