I Ordered DeWalt Tools From China

Bare tools are becoming the norm in many legit retail stores now as well as the internet. They are hardly "discounts" when you figure in the cost to buy the batteries and charger (the parts that are most likely to fail first). It's a marketing gimmick initiated by the manufacturers. Same concept as Gillette razor blades (give the razor body away but gouge on the blades) and Hewlett Packard ink jet cartridges (give the printer away but gouge on the ink).

I agree with you on the marketing ploys. Thats why I bought a printer with ink tanks and got a refill kit with fixed chips on the tanks. Mucho cheaper. As fer the razors ifn ya dont shave ya dont need um. 😁
But seriously you have to look for ways around their gimmicks that cost you money.
I hate that things are made in China but whats the difference if I buy a Dewalt brand battery, thats made in China, or a knockoff of equal quality. True I do cut into the corps big wigs pockets, but I can live with that. Im not hurting a factory worker here.

The savings is when you have multiple tools but only use one at a time.

I usually only use one tool at a time since it would be challenging to use more but I keep multiple batteries because it’s a real hassle swapping them around. I’ve had pretty good luck with the knockoff batteries. The case isn’t usually as nice as OEM and the latches are a little stuff but I can live with that. And I’ve not found the bare tools to be a very appealing option as in I’ve never bought one because the price doesn’t make sense. Another thing that bugs me is a lot of sets only come with one 2ah battery. I hate the little batteries. They don’t run as strong in my experience.

I bought a few Dewalt tools a couple days ago, but none were made in China. The drill and impact driver were both made in USA, and the multi tool was made in Mexico.

I ordered a hammer drill off ebay last night that was listed for $28 bucks. This morning the drill wasn't showing in my purchases but the extended warranty was. The listing was still active so I tried again. It shows in my eBay purchases last I looked but I still haven't gotten an order confirmation for anything but the square trade warranty. I might end up with two warranties and no drills.

I suspect someone has hacked the sellers account. I tried to buy two different laptops earlier this year that both orders got cancelled on.

EDIT: As suspected the sellers account was hacked. I get neither of my drills and will have to wait for Square Trade to refund the extended warranty I bought on them. Hopefully the hacker doesn't or can't use my PayPal info from the deal. On my CC login I show 4 transactions that apparently are charges and credits but they don't minus the credits. Kind of confusing.

Last Christmas, the wife ordered butter cookies. There was no mention they were coming from China. They did arrive 3 months later in a 3" x3" box and all crumbs. Price was $35.

DeWalt is switching over the the 20v lithium battery tools. 18v Nicad batteries and tools will be supported but are being phased out. So it is not surprising that some 18v deals are going to be popping up. Look at any of the big box stores and see how many 18V tools you can buy. They are getting rare.

This is one reason I bought the ten-pack, there are two batteries. I got a 20V 5ah battery and it seems to hold up just fine but it is new.

I was looking for some very low-profile door handles for a rarely used closet-like space under a stairway and also another mech room, which open into a hallway. The original push-latches sucked and I wanted something more substantial but that wouldn't project into the hallway.

I found a likely product on the web, but they were really expensive - like $80 each.

Cheaper on Amazon, and then I found the exact things on AliExpress for $5 each. They came in just over a week.

I believe that you also can buy an adapter to convert your 18v to lithium. DEWALT DCA182 2Volt MAX Battery Adapter for 18Volt Tools | eBay
I bought my 20v a few years ago at Lowe's... 2 batteries a charger and the drill for $100. If I get anything else it will be the bare tool, then I will pick up a couple of 5 ah batteries.

Two weeks ago I bought a DeWalt Compact Sawzall from Amazon and with battery and charger it was about $220.

Yesterday I get a pop up ad which advertised a DeWalt 10-piece cordless tool set with two 18-volt batteries, case, chargers覧-for $77. I bought it on a leap of faith. It may be legit, it may be defective, it may be junk but I bought it. Let痴 face it, most of our tools are made there anyway and they are fine. I will let you know.

We will be waiting for the updates. Good Luck!

Are you sure? DeWalt doesn't make a Sawzall...

It must be a Milwaukee; they are the only company that makes Sawzall.

Is that the same difference in a bobcat and a skid steer or a circular saw and a skil saw? IMG_1051.JPG

No matter how attractive some prices look to be you still need to shop.

As a 'tool nut' I constantly have my eyes open and very often find local deals much more attractive than Amazon and often even from China.
All being said my best buys still are pawn shops and or yard sales.

Some auctions also yield excellent buys.

At one auction I bought 4 'Quick drives', 3 pneumatic nail guns and 20 cases of 3.5" nails for my Hitachi framing nail gun.
I was bidding against a tool shop that also manufactured nail strips, When he stopped bidding I simply upped by $1,00 and won! (LOL, paid $16.50/ case)
The 'quick drives' set me back $35 ea! and my nail guns that I paid $31.00 ea sold on EBay for close to $90 ea.
LOL when loaded my Chevy van was riding with the rear end all squashed down.

BUT, my absolute best deal is a General 16" planer with 2 HP power that I got at a yard sale for $300. and perhaps my 8" Clarke floor drum for $100 at a yard sale.
FYI, the General carries a list of $3-4K and Clark sanders rarely go much less than $1K used.

+ 5% GST and +9.98% QST = 14.98% sales tax !!!

Thanks Robert, I only passed through California going out of the country in 1970 so I am not up on proper tool nomenclature as required by California law. Technically, it is a DeWalt Compact Reciprocating Saw. When I am out in the orchard, with all my tools in the back of the UTV, can I ask my wife to hand me the sawzall?

There's a chain store Direct Tools usually in malls which is great for me while the wife shops for clothes (she doesn't need...but she says I don't need more tools either).
Most things are branded "blems", "remanufactured " or "gently used!".
One Ryobi tool I bought quit so I took it to a local repair place. The guy took it apart while I was there and the reman process was really shoddy, performed by illegal chimpanzees it looked like.
Bottom line...great prices but caveat emptor! 99.9% of the time you truly get what you pay for.

Did it come in yet? We would like to see the pictures if you would be kind enough to post one or two?
