I'll take a few coyotes over these wild hogs any day.

We are overrun with both. And the blame wildlife and fisheries guys are reintroducing black bears. Yippee!

When I read the title to this post, I had a bad feeling, but it ended up being a good thing. We also have lots of coyotes around us in Western Illinois. You really here them at night howling. They are very smart and you rarely see them. The foxes have started living in town or on the edge of town, just to stay away from the coyotes, which I think will kill the foxes.

here coyotes are open all year. All that is needed is a wildlife stamp $4.00 and your in board. Once deer season opens till the end of March shotguns, rimfires, centerfire or bow your choice after 1 April till open of deer season shotgun and bow only.
In this part of the province there are only a few rarley heard and seldom seen but, in other areas there are a lot!

We have a much bigger problem with bears than coyotes. Although just recently the wild hogs have started making an appearance. For those, the DEC said "shoot on sight". Fortunately (or unfortunately), I haven't seen any of those yet.

Just wait, it gets better and I dont mean that in a good way. They are related to bears and I'd bet 10x's more destructive overall.

Are coyotes a nuisance down in your area? Up here they're more a curiosity. We're not allowed to shoot them unless it's actually attacking our property (sheep, foul, etc.). and that's never been a problem for me. I very rarely even see one.

I've seen more red fox than coyote around my land. I get more use out of my Swarovski's than my Mossberg these days.

I have been hunting in upstate NY, Otsego county, for 20years. I have shot many a coyote. The season is from October through March. You can use any implement, any time of day or night, no bag limits. Where in upstate NY are you that you cannot shoot a coyote? I saw one 2 weeks ago while on the 4x4 but he was 80yds away and I only had my .38 snubnose with me.

Same with me. I thought someone accidentally got shot while out hunting. Good thing it was not a human. It made me feel much better reading the post and finding out it was a coyote.

As I said, I know there's a hunting season. What I was commenting on is that unlike the OP, there *IS* a restriction in our state. You can't just shoot them willy nilly. 1) You need a permit. 2) You need to hunt them in season.

I was surprised that the OP's area is so infested, that it's open season all the time, no permit required.

In you first post you state that you are not allowed to shoot coyotes unless they are attacking your property. You make no mention of hunting seasons, permits or restrictions. After reading the thread further I see that you clarified that in subsequent posts. I was responding to your first post. No matter, we seem to be talking the same language now:)

Glad to see the OP was able to take a problem coyote out of the area. Maybe you'll see some feathered friends now:)
