I can open a can of beer with an excavator, or a skidsteer, or a backhoe, or a grader, or a dozer for that matter.

So?? I can open a Volkswagen with an excavator, or a skidsteer, or a backhoe, or a grader, or a dozer for that matter.

And to think all this time I have only used my hands. Off to get a case now and fire up the diesel!

I can open them too, but without and skill or grace. Also without the ability to drink the beer later, unless the dog laps it off the ground. I used to have a 50% chance of moving a lever the right way, then came the four way levers which reduced it to 25%. Then came standing on the ground and operating the backhoe vs sitting behind the controls That reduced it to 12.5% chance as pull toward became push away.

You guys are so funny. Years ago I had an old Volvo that was headed for the junkyard. I needed one part off the thing, the oil pan. I was thinking of the best way to get the pan off without spending too much time yanking the engine. I had a brainstorm, fire up the EC35 excavator and yank the motor out with the hydraulic thumb.

I had a kid helping me not sure quite what I was up to, I fired up the little machine and crawled over to the front of the car; I never even opened up the hood. I look over at him and he has a weird look on his face like a WTF moment. I pierce through the hood and grab the engine/transmission, lift it and shake the car a couple of times. OUT it comes, I raised it up and pulled the pan off with an air ratchet.

He told me later that he had no idea what I was about to do. It was so funny. I tried it on a newer Volvo but the engine mounts are cabled in and one can forget about ripping an engine through the hood, maybe with a larger machine.

I wonder if the NWS ever issues warnings when The Fred is having a brainstorm?

Fred's next mod needs to be to drill the exhaust manifold and stick in a pyrometer pre-turbo ... ;)
