I thought that "tow/haul" was supposed to do that. I quess the manual shift will be the way to pull with it.
Typically, a T/H feature will stretch shift points to a higher RPM/speed,and typically there is less time allowed for converter lock. When pulling, you want to get into converter lock as quick as possible.
Gear isolation varies between vehicles and applications... yours may very well lock out 6th in TH... but it may not be enough when pulling with a gasser... If you are backing out of 5th when pulling, I would look at replacing the rear gears..

Giving up a Cummins for a Ford gas hog, I don't know.
Enjoy the new truck it looks like a nice one.

While it is true that the diesel engine has a premium on it; they last longer by far (assuming the new ones have the history of the older ones; still to be seen) You just can not expect to get the number of miles on a gas vehicle without engine rebuild that you can on a good diesel engine.

It is always interesting how folks focus on the fact that diesel fuel is more expensive than petrol gas. Take a month or two or even a year and write down the price of fuel in your area. Yes It goes up it goes down. Just take it and put it in a spreadsheet. Then do a running calculation of the % more you would pay for diesel than you would for gas. Then look at the % more mpg that you get with diesel than you do with the gas engines especially if you tow anything and you will be surprised. Now if you don't tow or do heavy towing I would agree a diesel may not be worth it.

Well I messed with it today. I discoverd that by using the +/- on the shift lever I can lock it out of a gear ... if I press (-) the button the indicator shows 5th and then press (-) the button again it shows 4th .... still runs thru 1,2 and 3 like a regular automatic. That kept my shifting to a minimum.

I was going to explain this feature but you figured it out.
Well I also traded a dodge for ford gas. a 06 dodge that did not know when it was in park, that got a wonderfull 13 mpg highway unloaded, that required an average of $800 a month for maintenance. Not going to bash just stating the facts, some vehicles are just junk. Not saying all dodges are that way just the one i bought.

A whole 1100 miles and I'm learning more about it and really enjoying the truck. The ride is super. At this point the on board computer is telling me 12.6 pulling a 25' trailer yesterday. The best I've had in the first 1100 miles was 14.3 ... no trailer, empty, downhill with the wind at my back.

Furu ... I don't know if I agree with your post. I've never put it to a spread sheet. I would think taking the intial upfront cost for the diesel engine along with the cost per gallon one would have to drive alot of miles to reach the break even point.

I will say I really liked my Dodge ... simply can not complain about it. And so far I'm really liking the Ford. I reported the mpg because in the thread because I was asked to ... what it comes down to (for me) is simple...I'm still going to drive the truck no matter what mpg it gets.
