The danger is oil getting into a cylinder via the PCV route. From what I have read anyway.
This was a good catch. OP is going to have to tell us location of PCV, and if machine rolled in a direction that's likely to have sent oil that way. On most V-type engines, PCV is from one valve cover, so you have a 50/50 chance on whether tipping the machine will keep PCV dry or submerged. But I believe this Kubota Z482-EF04 is an inline arrangement, and without wasting time searching, I don't know the PCV location or arrangement.

Any clue from the smell of the smoke? Unburned diesel? Burning oil? Burning coolant? Each has a unique smell. If you are luck it will settle and burn off over time. If you are unluck it was hydrolocked and your attempt to start it busted something internal. Unburned diesel would be the most likely result.

People use different terminology, so let me ask some more about what happened when you first tried to start it. You said it wouldn't turn over initially. Do you mean that the starter couldn't rotate the engine, and stalled, like it would if you had a low battery? Or did it rotate but just not fire off?
No it would not turnover just like a low battery, on the third tr it started. Strong diesel smell.

Blowing smoke after a tip could be any number of things so further diagnosis by your self is needed. No one can properly diag your machine sitting in front of a keyboard.

Not true. We can't gather the data for him, but remote diagnosis happens everyday, on everything from mechanical to medical issues.

For example, inability to turn over would be another data point in favor of hydro-locking. If he gathers some of the other data points requested (compression, leak-down), further conclusions may be drawn.

If it was hydrolocked and you cranked it, you now have expensive damage, in all likelihood. That bends valves and con rods and can destroy pistons

How would you bend a valve? That happens when the engine is ran out of time which it wasn’t. Bending rods usually happen when fluid is sucked in with the engine running. Bending a rod with the starter motor would be impressive.

Incompressible fluid in the chamber is bad. Many things can happen. Nothing good. Something will break

By far the most likely is the starter motor stalls and nothing happens. If the engine was still running when it flipped that’s when bad things happened. It was start starved for oil and any number of bad things could have happened or it could’ve sucked oil bad things happened.

I have a mini excavator with a Kubota Z482-EF04 motor. I tipped it on its side today. After I up righted it I tried to start it but it would not turnover, I tried again to start it and it started but its blowing a lot of white smoke. I let it run at idle for about 45 minutes but its still blowing out the white smoke. it starts and rev like normal but when I try to used the hydraulic the motor stalls. Pic attached.

Any ideas.
Probably was hydro-locked while trying the first crank over. Now I'm wondering if oil was pushed into the exhaust through an open valve and may have collected in the muffler. That would take a while to burn off. The OP says it revs normally even while blowing smoke so he may be alright, seems it wouldn't run well with bent rods and so forth. The other symptom of engine stalling when the hydraulics are engaged - I'm wondering if a hydro hose connection has come apart or a crimped steel line is causing the pump to dead head.
