In May I ordered a new Mini Excavator from the shop I've patronized for 36 years. While they didn't have one in stock the salesman said he would locate one... 2 days later he called and said he had one incoming from another dealer, but it was lacking the quick coupler and bucket and that he'd have to order them.

Several weeks later and after the mini was delivered to my dealer, still no bucket and QC. I knew one of their other dealers had a similar machine and I asked if he could rob those so I could take delivery. He agreed.

I went to the shop on a rainy day and asked if they would get the key so we could check the hours on the machine, I watched the dealer put the key in, turn it, look at the display and he turned to me and said there were no hours on the machine.. (??)

The bucket and QC finally arrived, several days later (2 days ago) they delivered the machine.. I was absolutely shocked. The first thing I did was put the key in, toggle to "hours' and check the meter, 7.1 hours (not the zero i was told when I was at the shop). The machine was beyond dirty. Here are just a few pics I took and sent to the sales guy, zoom in and take a hard look at the filth on the zerk fitting (most were like that), the tracks, the engine compartment was filthy and looked like it was 20 years old, and when I put the front door down under and seat I couldn't believe it. I called the sales guy and told him to have the driver turn around and come get this POS and bring my check back. He suggested he had no idea the Ex was in that shape and stated that it looked like a demo unit.. 30 minutes later and machine is gone after waiting months. Now 2 days later, absolutely no follow-up contact from the sales guy or dealer.

I now believe there was no original bucket or QC cause they showed wear from use, and there's no way they did a DX on that machine w/o knowing its hours or condition. And no one from the dealer even put eyes on that machine, they just shipped it to me like that? I call it a shady, BS deal.

Of course what I want is hard to find, none locally, with months wasted, my hunt continues.. Also, there was a finance promotion that I was going to leverage to finance half the machine at 0%, that is now gone...

I'm just a homeowner with a couple of acres. I purchased this because I can, and I take pride in everything I own. I told my wife that even if they took $10k off that machine (which they NEVER would) I didn't want it. They completely ruined my new buying experience and that if I kept it, every time I looked at it I would remember the disappointment from delivery day.

Zoom way in and enjoy the pics of this 'new' machine...

The dirt and dust on the airfilter box, cabin, etc can be just from sitting around in the yard. I know I'll wash my truck at the car wash, and after few days sitting at home it looks filthy and covered in dust just like that because im working on the backyard and digging and using leaf blowers to move dust and dirt around and so on..
excess grease attracts all the flying dirt and dust and can look bad even just days later sitting in that environment. 7 hours of demonstration and sitting in the shop and yard etc can totally cause that much dirt on it.

I wouldn't look at the grease or grease fittings as judge of use and age... look at the paint and the clear plastic and stickers instead. The color depth, the scratches, fading etc... also check the serial number see find out the year of the machine.

I'd just take a pressure washer to it, maybe add some degreaser.. and she'll be as good as new.

Glad I do not buy new... I mighty have been upset as OP with KX not being at least pressure washed. The 0 vs 7 hour thing may have been misunderstanding. Person looking at hour meter saying 0 hour in his eyes 7 hours was no hours on a new machine. The OP did not question the zero hour and ask to see the hour meter. If the KX sat on the lot for several months possible to have gain several hour just moving around, customer taking a spin around the lot and may be shop using it. The 0 hour remark set in place of breaking trust of the dealer.

40 years ago I work at a Ag Deere dealer for 5 years. Everything got washed coming in and going out. Our salesman had excellent relationship with the customers. He would do what it takes to make a sale. Everything is negotiable. The sales person failed and dropped the ball.

Yup. The wife bought our 410j with a few hundred hours on it. Basically a new unit but it had been used for demo and maybe for rent a few times? When the lowboy arrived to deliver the LBH that machine was spotless. the whole interior was ArmorAll cleaned (or something equivalent) including the floor and the windows, the whole exterior detailed with fresh grease showing throughout. They even shined the tires. I was impressed.

When we finished fixing customer equipment (even non-green), hit it with a pressure washer before delivery back to the customer. Always got comments from the customer they were not expected getting clean tractor back.

Worked at small IH dealer for few months before going to Deere dealer. At IH - doing engine overhauls and hydraulic work. When finished pressure wash tractor before delivery back to customer.

What I see is a machine that sat out on the lot for a while collecting dust.

They should have washed it before delivering it.

The air filter cover being off kilter is a nothing burger.

Im glad they checked to make sure an air filter was installed

I’m not speaking for the OP but what caught my eye is the condition of the tracks making it looked used.

Wow, 13 pages since Sat?!
The machine has 7 hrs which mean it was used as a demo for two or three potential customers since that thing did not arrive at the dealership after being at the factory and load and unloaded for transport which probably added up to 4 of the 7 hrs.
Did they not give a warranty? 7 hrs is new, and they back it up with a new machine warranty.

Most every machinery dealer I have been to has dirt/gravel parking and storage area. If it rained before they drove it across the lot and loaded it, the tracks will get dirty.

This reminds me of when I was looking for a tractor a few years ago. I was originally looking at auctions/used. I would say a good 95% of the ads looked like they drove the tractor across a swamp to get it to the sales lot.
I made a comment about how lazy can a dealer be to not clean off a tractor before putting it up for sale and man...o...man did everybody jump down my case for expecting somebody to actually clean a tractor before taking $45-50,000 for it.

7 hours is probably 1/1000 of its useful life. I once bought a 2 yr old rental unit with 1500 hrs on it. It had dents and scratches on every panel. I used it for 14 yrs before downsizing with only a starter and battery repair. I think you just let the machine you wanted get away.
I get it you wanted shiny brand new and you were disappointed. But I think I would have made a deal.
I bought my 2014 Kioti NX4510HST in 2016 as a new leftover. It had 13 or 14 hours on it. The tractor had not been used to do any loader work based on the bucket condition. The salesman told me that they moved it back and forth between their 4 dealerships every few months. I didn’t think anything about the 13 or 14 hours on it. I didn't see any damage to it. It sure was pretty dusty up underneath and under the hood.

These responses are funny. Some saying it isn't a big deal, others saying you should have accepted it and tried to bargain a price reduction. My two cents, new is new, a demo is used, used is accepting she isn't a virgin anymore. If it's my money I expect what I pay for to be just as I ordered, or someone else can have it as they aren't rare. Would you want a brand new c8 zr1xt with 300 miles on it and obvious tire wear? Not if I am paying 190k plus "expenses". The privilege of losing 40k driving off the lot was I am going to break in the seat, engine and ruin some tires.

Instead of getting the one he looked at with the collected quick coupler and bucket, he got another one that had the quick coupler and bucket.....and 7 hrs on the clock.
Just makes sense with the delays and everything, he got a different excavator than the one he saw initially.

Do you see any evidence that this machine isn’t new? 7 hours of digging In the dirt and 7 hours of idling on the dealers lot aren’t the same thing.

Sounds like poor dealer communications and equipment prep. All of my new tractors had a few hours on them. My 2024 Yukon had almost 100 miles on it when I took delivery. It came out of the factory in Arlington. Instead of waiting a week or more to get vehicles delivered the dealership took 4 guys on a road trip, picked vehicles up at the factory, and drove them back to the dealership. They ask me first if I was OK with that. Warranty is good till 5 years or 100,100 miles on the drivetrain.

When something like this ruins your day remember someone is starving somewhere right now. It’ll be ok.
