The only bad thing of looking forward to the next year is everything is going up in price and morality is going down..........
I could not disagree more that morality is going down. The ovewhelming majority of folks are decent, honest and kind. But when I was scanning the home page of a news website awhile ago, there must have been two dozen "headlines" about violence & murders giving one the impression that the world is going to **** in a handbasket.
But that's what the media does-- especially in this Internet age. Focus on the sensational. In reality, for every such tragic event the true nature of citizens comes shinining through in the form of vast numbers of people coming together to support their neighbors. The act of one maniac in Newtown, MA resulted in thousands of people all over the world uniting to support that community.
Be it a natural disaster such as hurricane, tornado, fire or flood-- or an isolated act of violence, the media is positively obsessed with showing as much gory detail as possible, while ordinary citizens everywhere rally to support the victims.
The maniacs are, and always will be out there and the media will always fall over themselves to shine a spotlight on them giving the impression that they represent some kiind of moral degradation in society at large, but that's serves as a huge injustice to the population as a whole.
And finally, the notion that the good old days of the 50's or 60's were somehow more idyllic, completely ignores the fact that a multitude of societal injustices were a part of everyday life for many of that era. But back then, what might have happened in one town was nothing more than a local story. Today, the media can aggregate hundreds of tales of woe from all over the world to a single web page. Hard to read that without coming away with a pretty bad feeling about mankind.
