Responses in order:
trkbldr - Of course you can post, but if you want people to bother reading your post, try using a grammar and spell checker to help you. I doubt that most "kaintuky peopl" are actually as uneducated as you imply!
Maineiac - What is a "Dukie"?
Gatorboy - The TBN spell checker sometimes doesn’t pop up for me, does not show misspelling as it is typed, and is limited to short posts.
Apparently trkbldr needs all the help he can get!
My primary concern is Power Trac posters.
MicroPilot - Maybe they can, but why would they waste their time on a message that the author doesn’t care enough about to make it legible!
trkbldr - That is the reason for using a grammar or spell checker!
If you immediately recognized all your errors, you most likely would not make them!
www.onelook.com can also be a big help!
California - WORD in a reduced window works good also.
Photos help if they are cropped to only show the important part of the picture.
B7500 - Some birds need a good ruffling, particularly those who seem to think that it is OK, funny, cool, or smart, to play the dumb hillbilly who really knows it all, but doesn’t know, or won’t use, standard English!
Capitalizing can sometimes be used effectively where emphasis is desired.
“i” should always be “I” when referring to oneself.
I appreciate your efforts!
With many posts just rereading it before posting it would reveal the most egregious errors. Honest mistakes are expected, but blatant abuse of our language should not be foisted upon readers who are searching for information, not anagrams!
shvl73 - True! However, clear concise text adds credibility!
MikePA & shvl73 - Wouldn’t it make your searching and reading more pleasant if you could do it without resorting to cryptanalysis?
Gatorboy - I did not say that a spell checker would catch all errors, but it can certainly help! Hopefully a careful rereading of the text would reveal to the author that he meant to type “two”, not “to” or “too”!
MikePA - I sincerely hope that with a little extra effort we can score higher than that!!
Henro - They should endeavor to make English their first language. They should post in the best English they can, if they want their views to be understood.
I prefer that they utilize whatever tools that are available to them to write as clearly as possible. A forum like this can be good practice for a person with limited English writing skills.
www.ONELOOK.COM has “Find translations” to help those with a limited English vocabulary. Most of our ancestors did not speak English when they arrived in America, but most of them soon learned that their old language was for the old country, and learning English was one of the keys to success here!
Maybe you should all dress like I do!
I am not demanding anything! But, as the Army says: “Be the best you can be!”.
“Good enough” shouldn’t be the goal in any endeavor! You don’t have to be perfect, just as good as possible!
You should feel superior because you apparently know two languages, whereas some of us only know one!!
daedong - You are right! Bad English can be funny, but the humor soon dims if you recognize that the errant writer isn’t trying to be funny!! Ignorance is sad humor!!
BillyP - The intent of this thread is to encourage a higher quality forum.
If someone makes a real effort, but the result isn’t very good, that’s fine! But if someone just slops a post together, when they know they could write much better text, shame on them!
I have a life! Part of which is writing on TBN, and challenging others to do the same! (In the past few days I have been disappointed by the small number of new posts. This thread has really gotten the keys moving again!!)
Tractors4u - YES!!!!!!!
AndyM - See! Even I am not perfect, but that does not mean that I should stop striving to improve myself!
Don’t use “Everybody does it!” as an excuse! Use it as a challenge to do better!!
daedong - Is that a Sweet Gum, or a Sour Gum, tree??
