Geez TREV, I only get 4 emails a day from you, and since I'm on generator watch while my wiff sleeps, I can't be hera all the time.
NOW, just one little request, since the rest ot my road has power back on from RG&E, the incompetent utility, Could I have it too?
Will you be joining me at the PSC hearing, after the storm this year?
It's really hard to hate a company that put money in my pocket for years, but the new improved management team is really helping me detest what RG&E has become.

Trev:
"don't know what we're doing"

Think everyone here knows different. You sure are well prepared except for the empty RUM barrels to haul electrons in.

Do not fear; you will fend of the storm ravages for the neighborhood.

The last time Detroit Edison had this many outages for so long the PSC made them go on an extensive program to clear trees and limbs from their lines. I’m sure they will face the same requirements again.
They currently have over 300,000 homes without power. That’s after 2 days of repairs. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I received a call from them yesterday to give me a status on when we should have power back. It is still by 6:00pm Wednesday. That may not hold. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif We are going to get another storm tonight and tomorrow morning with 6” of snow.
Sure is nice to have the equipment to keep the home warm and comfortable. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hope your area is starting to get power back. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sure, I'll come to the hearing with you.. but you do the talking.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And don't you know you're supposed to be on-call 24x7 in case I have some minor problem that needs expert advice??

Sheesh!

As it stands now, my neighbor and I have learned one lesson well: before starting a project about which we know next to nothing, get some expert advice! I think we can still make this work, but it will involve a lot more than the "expert" at the electrical place we bought the wire suggested it would. He sold us connectors that wouldn't fit the wire, and told us he would have been happy to connect them for us but he was just too busy right then. Would have loved to see him try to connect them! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

We're surviving.. hope everyone else is too!!

Best,
Bob

Well, I think we found our solution. My friend called up electrical place that sold him this stuff, told them that:

1) We're in an official State of Emergency.

2) They sold him stuff that wouldn't work.

3) He lost an entire refrigerator worth of food last night because of THEIR error.

4) He would be over with the cable they said they couldn't take back if it didn't work, and they were GOING to take it back, and, not only that, they were going to wire him up one that WOULD work.

5) He would be taking them to court over this unless they made it right immediately.

So, he's getting some new stuff, all wired up to work, and the people were VERY apologetic.. YESSIR mode!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Never hurts to stand up for your rights.

Best,
Bob

Trev,

First you guys up there in Ice Country have my sympathy!

We had two ice storms this winter, the first was REAL bad
the second was just scary. Lots of people out of power for
weeks. It is NOT fun at all. I'm lucky in that our subdivision
gets power off a main line running on a major road. The road
gets cleared first and then the power line so we get juice
ASAP. With the ice storm and the hurricanes I don't think I
have ever been out of power for more that 24 hours.

Its NOT fun. But I'm lucky in regards to power!

The ice scared my neighbor so much that he just had ALL
his pines taken down. They leaned over the house during
the ice storm. I heard and saw to many pine fall. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
SCARY!

Now the property is another story. I'm STILL cleaning up
the mess from the storm. Once the house is built out there
if we loose power its going to be a better part of a week to
get juice back. My neighbor who just moved in out there did
not have a generator. He is on a well and the septic requires
a pump or two. I TOLD him to get a generator. He did not
listen. I think he has a generator now! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Trev, I just looked at your profile and you have a 4300. For
some reason I thought you had a 4700. The 4300 is giving
enough HP to power everything? I guessing I'll get a PTO
generator, I bought the tractor with that as an option for the
future. What are you running off the generator? If a 4300
provides enought umph, my 4700 should not have a problem.
Are you running the 4300 at PTO speed?

Later,
Dan

Dan, just don't buy as BIG as Trev did, and NO, I ain't drivin to the Carolinas to hook one up. Also, don't size to power the neighbor's house, Trev can tell you how that works out. Trev types better than I do.

75 HOURS on the ONAN, and I'm back on RG&E power. YUP, the ONAN will be getting serviced this week, and I have 25 gallons of gas at the ready.
The Linemen from Long Island tell me 75% of the problems they are fixing are due to lack of maintainence by RG&E, all triggered by TREV's Ice Storm. Gee, more reenfoccement for my belief that RG&E is operating like a baby ENRON.

What utility is it that has a red T on a yellow (I think) background? They were the ones that brought us online after 3 & 1/2 days. I'd like to thank them. Not RG&E.

And I was thinking about replacing our dual oil/wood furnace! wow, I'd hate to think about not having that the last few days..what a God-send.

I was an hour away from buying a generator yesterday when the power came back on.. The CFO had had enough and was ready to break down and buy one. We'll still get one, bu not this week. Probably.

Pete, I think that's one of the contractors out of Boston. They wear big funny broad brimmed hardhats, like a pith helmet, and whip on their Union Jacket, green with embroidered union logo if a TV camera comes into sight. Good bunch of linemen who are happy to be here, cause Boston becomes a combat zone during power outages.
This restoration is far different from the last one I worked in 91, and games are being played on the customers. RG&E is running a real good propoganda campaign on the customers.
Ahhh, the joy of being part of the mega Eastern Utilitys holding company.
