At my current house, my detached garage (aka barn) is about 50' away, & even that sometimes is kind of a drag to walk just to grab a small tool or something. The closer the better unless it looks bad, etc.
See my reply to Kyle above but i'm used to my garage/barn not being very close to the house, not sure that makes it right though.

No advise on your barn but what a wonderful piece of land!
Thanks.

Not as much where to put but just more of how to build.

Make sure you have plenty of space to turn a trailer around. Where I went wrong is I am on a hill and carved out just enough to get a good landing pad in but I can't get a 2500 w/ trailer turned around so I have to back up my windy drive to put it in the barn. You land looks flat so it won't be as big of a deal but I would still make a turn around - makes life a lot easier.
I'm uploading some pictures i just took, i don't think the previous pictures do justice to the steepness of the property. Room to turn around my truck/trailer (2500 & 25' gooseneck) is definately the plan. I'm also going to have the area graded to allow room to drive the truck/trailer around the barn.

It wouldn't bother to have my barn far away either all though mine is quite close to the house. Having enough land to place a barn far away from the house is a blessing and not a curse. If you have enough land to make choices on placement I envy you. It was only four years ago that I bought enough land to have a choice on barn placement. This was a very pleasant problem for me.

Your land is beautiful! Looks a bit my place. I'll bet you get a lot of wind there. I know I sure do. When we bought our place the owner said there was a always a good breeze blowing in the summer. And he was right. He failed to mention that the winter wind here is brutal.

Thanks, yes there is a nice breeze in the summer and so far this winter there has been some pretty good wind. We have planted at least 10 trees so far for windbreaks, maybe in 15 - 20 years they'll be big enough to do something. haha

The winter wind here hasn't been so bad last year and this year so far. The two years before it was bad. Enjoy every second of your land. I sure do. One good thing about the wind. I have never had to rake a single leaf here. Goodness knows where they go.
