If a hydro fails what part of it fails ???

Roughcut,
Sorry, but many of the hydro's now- a- days are Ehydro. I think the seatswitch is a bit off base, the tractor won't work with a flat tire either /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I usually don't get into these discussions, because it is just another one of those my dad is tougher than your dad, mine is bigger than your discussions. Running a piece of equipment only 50-100 hours a year, you have virtually nothing to worry about along the line of dependability for either transmission. Having said that I don't see the point that you are trying to make about RickB. He only outlined the problems with each type of transmission.

I was just asking, what was the point that you were trying to make.

Jerry, I think the subject title explains what Rough_Cut meant by listening to RickB. It ain't no gear vs hydro thread. He's simply asking what part of a hydro is prone to failure.

Maybe you have experience here? If so, do tell.

You know, I just realized what the answer might be...

Thinking about the alternative question "If a gear tranny fails, what part of it fails?" lead me to the answer:

Something inside!

There is no real answer because each failure may be for a different reason.

Now a specific brand/model/type transmission may have a design weakness that shows up for that particular item, but it will not necessarily be shared by other designs or other manufacturer's products.

So...the generic answer to the generic question must be "Something inside..."

The points brought up referring to Ehydro systems indicate that perhaps a more general answer is needed:

So to cover all the bases we need to answer:

Something inside OR outside... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't think the initial question really has a specific answer. Just like a gear transmission could fail for any number of reasons, so could a hydro. Name all the parts, pick any one of them, and you have one possible reason...for a failure, sooner or later.

That is my take on it anyway... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
