OK, it worked, but the PVC flexed and chattered against the impeller a little. I replaced it with black iron pipe and it works beautifully. I need to move the bolt heads to the inside of the pipe and then I think I can use it on the blacktop driveway too.

I'll start a new thread with my next genius invention.
