I agree somewhat. Socialized medicine should be incorporated into government and any other benefit should be eliminated.(imho)
Too many freeloaders learn how to manipulate a system that offers benefits based on your disability. Fix the disabled. There is a job for everyone.
I know a lady now that is a quadriplegic that runs a collection service from her bed. She was hooked on dilaudid and found life. She sill has pain.
It's all in the motivation.
Pain clinics are good alternatives to drugs!
I'm retired Army and I have seen my share of bums that milk the system and legitimate vets that can't get a thing because undeserving individuals have clogged our system to the max.

That is precisely what I am saying. It may surprise you to learn that for most of human history it would never have even occurred to anyone to expect any government to give them money for any physical or mental condition. Now that the door is open, we can scarcely imagine a life without gov't entitlements. Thank you FDR.

This entitlement trend can only go in one direction, and that is escalation. And it can only end one way, and that is financial collapse. So, as I say, the course is set and the debate is purely academic.

Tommy - Sorry to hear about your health problems. Those are hard to bounce back from, keep your spirits up! Glad your machine helps you get around and even helps pay it's way.

There are lots of freeloaders and I agree, they should be taken out and horse whipped or worse! Maybe much worse, deport them to a country with socialized medicine ! They are stealing from the pot of money that is supposed to go to people that are truely in need. Makes my blood boil, when I think about them! It's why most of us get P.O'ed when we see a husky healthy person dash out of a car parked in the handicaped spot.

This is a fine sentiment, but it's not possible. There is a segment of our political machine that now depends on dependants for a good portion of its power base. They will not allow "freeloaders" to be weeded out. Anyone who makes an honest effort in that regard is ostracized and labeled as uncaring. And nobody, particularly a politician with the power to make a difference, will stick his neck out far enough to risk such a labeling.

That is why no representative form of government can be trusted with any largess program. And that is what makes the problem virtually unsolvable. This was predicted as the manner of our demise early on in our history by a Frenchman named de Tocqueville.
