so mike what your saying is unless your injured in a war or your a new york fir fighter you don't deserve social security in the event of an on the job injury????

"Without going too far off the purpose of this forum, I believe there are any number of situations where it is our governments responsibity to provide "largess", "welfare", "benefits" or however else you want to put it. I.E. when one of our boys ( or women,as the case may be) gets thier legs blown off by a landmine in Iraq, I'm okay with providing them with "largess". The widows of all the Police and Firefighters who died on 9/11 all continue to get workers comp benefits.....would any of us wish to deny them that? I guess this type of thinking makes me a bleeding heart. "

Tommyhpx4X4 you should check with your State Rehab -- they will provide job training or send you to school. In Alabama we have a great Rehab program and I am sure that your state does too. I was in your same shoe at one time.

did you read my post about the meds i take and my injuries. i have been interviewd my a rehab person he said i can can be rehabilitated because of my neck and my back he asked me to lie about the meds on the job aplications just to get a job . with the meds i take there is not one company that will let me work for them and take the meds while at work.i can only sit stand walk or do anything for about 20 to 30 minutes maybe less i have a 10/15 lbs weight lifting restriction no bending no squating no working more that 2 hours a day and the list goes on. when i go to the dump with my son we are in and out in about 15 minutes and we are back home other than that i stay home in the summer i try to walk in the woods but winter time i am locked down.

so yes they tried the rehab thing and they found that they could not rehab me. i take a total of 9 narcotic pain killer for pain and head ache. and another 4 pills of topamax for the head aches. it's not a fun life i went from 155lbs down to 125lbs and right now i take the meds and stop topamax for a weeks or two so i can get a few pounds put back on but when the head aches get to bad i have to get back on them . i got down to as low as 120lbs one time and that was bad.i never was a big guy but 120 is really small.

Sorry, I was just trying to give you some options, I used to work in Electronic, got in a car wreck and thanks to Rehab I now have another career. We work with guy like you everyday and yes there is a job out there for you. But I would rather talk about tractors with you so let just leave it at that.

there is nuthin to be sorry about you were just trying to help.where i live there isn't alot of lets say technical jobs and i really can't do alot of sit down and bend over jobs like that sure i gree with you there is a job i can do but the meds and restrictions will keep the employer from hiring me. so yea lets get back to the tractor or utv talk. this is really depressing talk everytime i think about it i get depressed. so lets just get back to the utv and tractors.lol

Hey Mike,

It's all academic. Your side has already won this battle.

If by "your side" you mean the liberal do-gooders who want to give money away for the asking, you really are reading me wrong. I was just trying to give some examples where I think most people would agree that some type of benefits would not be out of line. Are you of the position that no one, no matter what the circumstance, is entitled to some form of benefits. If so, that seems a little harsh.

Tommy4x4, I do not take the position that the two examples I gave are the only times benefits should be available. Like I said, every situation, including yours, is unique.

And, yeah, I'd like to talk about tractors and RTV's.

That is precisely what I am saying. It may surprise you to learn that for most of human history it would never have even occurred to anyone to expect any government to give them money for any physical or mental condition. Now that the door is open, we can scarcely imagine a life without gov't entitlements. Thank you FDR.

This entitlement trend can only go in one direction, and that is escalation. And it can only end one way, and that is financial collapse. So, as I say, the course is set and the debate is purely academic.
