daedong,

That is one pretty picture! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I can imagine some kid coming from crowded Japan being freaked out with that much empty room. Course I would be freaked out if I had to be in a crowded Japanese city. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The fact that Sydney has 25% of the Australian population is interesting. Years ago I worked for a UK company that was opening operations in the states. I was one of the few Americans in the company with most people being from all around the world. Great experience. Many/Most of the people have stayed in the US and become US citizens. What was funny was that they figured that they had been to SE Florida and or NY city there fore they had seen the US!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Yeah right. Its a huge cultural difference to drive an hour or so from SE FL to SW FL. Or at least it used to be. That to may have changed.
/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

One of the wierd things I learned from the UK people is a bit of Cockney Rhyming Slang. Hold on there is the Dog and Bone........

I'm back. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They other strange thing about the UK was that it is such a small place compared to the US yet they have some many dialects. Some of the people I could barely understand yet they where speaking English!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Later,
Dan

Dan

The gap in difference between city folk and country folk has narrowed incredibly in th last 30 yrs here, i guess that has happened in the US as well.
Another interesting thing is 30 yrs ago in Aust we still had many habits and traditions that were English. our slag came from England (cockney) and Ireland.
Today is a totally different story, more and more we speak and live more like your country. It may not seem that way on the surface to you but i assure you we do. I believe this has happened because of faster communications, big businesses like Nike, and TV. Please don't take this wrong but we get shoved in or face every day TV programs from U.S. JUSTICE TEXAS, OPRAH, JUDGE JUDY, THE NANNY, ETC ETC! Even your ABC Business Hour.

The list below is mainly cockney but many are or should i say used to be use here in oz. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( What would the best states be for a holiday in USA or Canada - daedong )</font>

Include California, of course!

I'm a little late replying - I was vacationing in Yosemite Valley when you wrote, then finally today got my my photo edit program set up properly.

This (attached) was the view from our Yosemite campsite. We luckily got a site right on the Merced River with this unobstructed view.

That's a vertical mile from the valley to the top of Half Dome, about 8800 ft elevation at the top vs 3400 ft in the valley.

In California a minor fad is those country-of-origin oval bumper stickers. My favorite is YNP. Yosemite National Park, of course.

In my opinion Yosemite is the heart of California. Come experience it!

OK. I love the place.

It takes us an afternoon to drive up, and we tent-camp. Reservations are difficult so I suggest get a hotel room through a travel agent.

Here's another photo attached. I'm on the Mist Trail to Vernal Falls. Note the visitors farther up the trail (center right in my photo) and at the top of the falls.

Also, I put 'Vernal Falls Yosemite' into Google and
http://www.naturephoto.com/html/090.htm
was one of the hits. That professional photographer's site has several photos in Yosemite you might like.

" I've been to Alaska and hiked to the base of McKinley, Canada to Banff and Jasper, Maine to Acadia to Hawaii, all over Yellowstone and Glacier park. Colorado, Idaho, Washington state, Wyomings Tetons, Oregon and many more beautiful places. I have yet to see anything yet quite as breathtaking as <font color="green"> Yosemite. " </font>

I'm telling you, just like I said in my earlier post, it's incredible. Go there in spring and catch the massive Yosemite Falls. Rat.... Just one of thousands of web pages with Yosemite pictures. None do it justice.

Like RAT, I've been very fortunate to be able to travel all over this country. Been to all states except Alaska, and it is definitely on the list! I spent three of the best weeks of my life last summer island hopping with the wife in Hawaii. Being able to hike over lava fields to see an erupting volcano was one of the most incredible sites. The next day spent hiking in the rain forest. Taking a day off at the beach. Then scuba diving the next... It just had the best of so many worlds.

However, on the mainland, you've got to give yourself some time and just go from National Park to National Park in the West. It's simply amazing! Although large, this is a possible feat, get in the Grand Canyon, Bryce canyon, Yosemite, Zion, Sequoia, Yellowstone (although overcrowded). They're all unique and incredible. If for some reason you find yourself in the East, be sure to get over to Acadia.
