If there are aliens, what will they look like?

Good gravy.

Read the comments in the video. The rocket launches and starts to spiral by design, like a spiral football or rifled barrel to keep a bullet going strait. As it accelerates it spirals faster and faster. All of a sudden, the sound cuts out. That's when the rocket ran out of fuel. However, it keeps climbing due to inertia. And it keeps spiraling. Eventually, the clunk you hear is the de-spin system in the rocket. That activates to stop the spiraling. They stop the spiraling before they detach the launch stage. It didn't hit anything.. If it had hit something at that speed, it would have blown apart.

You want to know Good Gravy? Baumgartner capsule, in the Red Bull Jump, was launched from Roswell International Air Center. His ascent took approximately 2 1/2 after which the capsule levelled at approximately 24 mi in elevation. He jumped and 9 minutes later landed near Roswell New Mexico just 23 miles from his launch point.

I guess the earth stopped rotating for approximately 3 hours. :ROFLMAO:

That's your proof? Good grief. Yes, I have seen the videos before, but I sure would need lots more than that to be suckered into a conspiracy theory.

You believe that something else happened without proof and I'm honest to say that it appeared to hit something. Why isn't my speculation just as credible as yours?

Since the UFO thread got closed, I'm interested in what others think intelligent aliens might look like.

Personally, I'm inclined to to think that if they evolved on a planet similar to Earth, they would look somewhat like us, bi-laterally symmetrical, Heads with two eyes for binocular vision, one or more limbs with hands and fingers to be able to manipulate objects, and two or maybe four legs. While there may be intelligent races that have evolved in seas on other planets that look like fish, whales or big jellyfish, they aren't going to be able to develop or build interplanetary space ships or propulsion systems.
Evolution on this planet over a few hundred millions years has seemed to have settled on this body format for a great number of species, so it must have inherent advantages for survival.
While there are species like whales, Orcas and Dolphins that may be intelligent and live in social groups, their bodies have not allowed them to develop any technology that they can manipulate. Other species like ants live in large social groups and can cooperate to use objects and materials as tools and raw materials, but aren't individually intelligent.

What are your thoughts on this?
And PLEASE, keep your religious views on this subject out of the conversation.
The matter is settled. We now have a video of both an alien spacecraft and its occupants.

Because yours is speculation and the actual reasons were well explained.

What are you talking about?
"Unlike an astronaut, Baumgartner remained within the Earth's atmosphere so never experienced the planet rotating underneath him as witnessed by anyone actually in orbit. His team waited for the perfect weather conditions when high-altitude winds that might have caused his balloon to drift were at a minimum."

What I was getting at was instead of addressing the video he brought up, with the rocket that he thinks hit something, and my posting the comments in the video that explain what really happened, he side-stepped into a different topic, which is equally debunked.

The answer one would expect when told exactly what caused the rocket to stop spinning and what made the noises, a rational, competent person would say "Hmm.. that makes sense. I'll look into it further." Instead, he doubled down with a side step to a different topic, that has also been thoroughly explained, yet he tries to cast ridiculous doubts on it.

He's trying to say that if the earth actually rotated at the speed that 99.999% of educated people believe, that if we jumped straight up the earth should rotate under us and we should land "over there" instead of exactly where we started.

We all know that if you're in an airplane traveling level flight at 500mph, or a city bus going 30mph, and stand up in the aisle and jump, you're gonna land right back where you started. The airplane and the bus don't fly or drive away from underneath our feet while we're in mid jump, just as the earth doesn't rotate away from us while we're in mid-jump.

So he's going to say that proves his point that the earth isn't rotating because you land in the same place when you jump, despite we can prove that the same thing happens in a moving object: the airplane is moving at 500mph, the bus is going 30mph, and the jump outcome is the same as on his stationary earth.

This is easily proven by taking a ride on the Vomit Comet.

This is an amusing thread...and likely has more than a few followers reviewing what they learned in Jr. High physics...
But I really have to say what the debate reminds me most of is this:

Not me. I'm going to land on my butt, and all of the other passengers will laugh their tails off. ;)

It's the same thing as jumping while IN a moving train VS while ON TOP of a moving train...
- you jump while IN a moving train and you land right where you jumped from.
- you jump while ON TOP of a moving train, and you're going to land in the opposite direction that the train is moving.

That's due to wind resistance.

ON TOP of a moving train, you are subject to the train moving through the air.

IN a moving train, the air inside the train is moving at the same speed that you, and the rest of the train, are moving. There is no wind resistance. You are an object in motion, and you'll remain in motion until something acts against you, like wind or gravity. (Thanks Mr. Newton).

The same thing happens on the earth's surface. You and the air that you're standing in out in the middle of a flat field on a calm day are moving at the same speed as the surface of the earth. You jump and there is no wind resistance. Therefore, you land in the same spot. If you jump on a windy day, you may move a bit in the direction the wind is blowing, but on a calm day, you won't.

Reasonable, rational people can see these things and observe them for themselves. For whatever reasons (ignorance, mis-wiring, pure stubbornness, etc.) a very small number of people cannot or will not.

All right. We'll call it a draw.

Pretty much everything within Earth's gravitational field retains its rotational momentum as it leaves the ground, just like the surface it leaves. Do we measure the speed of a tree in the yard or our wash hanging on the line, a bird in flight or a fishing lure cast from shore? Not much to measure there or to see with the naked eye.

That said, there is indeed such a thing as Earth's rotation actually having an effect on objects leaving the surface. It's called the coriolis effect and it varies by direction and latitude. Germany accounted for this in its calculations when aiming its 'Paris gun' in WW I. Fired from East of the city it's range was seventy-some miles, if not accurate within a whole km or so, but aim accounted for coriolis to move the target within it's trajectory, thus extending it in practical use. The maximum effective range would be shorter if shooting to the East, as the target would be moving away from the artillery piece.
You believe that something else happened without proof and I'm honest to say that it appeared to hit something. Why isn't my speculation just as credible as yours?
IMO we may be listening to your opinion(s) more deeply than you are considering ours. The 'proof' we offer is consistent through the ages and universally corroborated. (btw, it lacks race and gender bias, just as Jesus taught) If your 'speculation' is that all governments & cultures have conspired to promote science as though it were a 'religion' since before the New Testament was written IMO it's quite a stretch to imagine that all of them have conspired to promote it.

btw, I'm willing to agree to disagree anytime without disdain, guys. :coffee:

You are conjecturing ideas to fit your belief system. There is absolutely no way to prove that everything retains its rotational momentum. If so how does the wind blow and clouds move in relation to the ground?

The Coriolis affect is fiction. The supposed toilet going backwards in the southern hemisphere is pure fiction.

The fact is the idea that the atmosphere and the ground are rotating at the same speed is purely science fiction. Like a helicopter blade the rotational velocity at the tip is much higher than the rotational velocity close to the center of rotation. We would experience constant hurricane force winds if that were the case.

Just as almost everything I presented is well explained. You believe your way and I believe my way. My religion of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is stronger than your religion.

Just give it some time to sink in. If the earth were actually rotating Baumgartner would have landed somewhere way east of where he launched.

Some people will believe in anything but the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
