If waxing tractor is lame...look what I did

I see no good reason for not waxing a tractor. Such a big investment deserves it, needs it, and protects it.

My thoughts exactly. Why spend 15 - 20k on a tractor only to let the appearance go to ****?, It doesn't make sense to me. I try to wax all my outdoor equipment once a year, and it pays off down the road if I ever want to sell it.

I hate to say it, but a few weeks ago when I bought a new Honda push mower, I had the urge to wax the deck.:D

Man that's pretty slick. That will work very well. I did basically the same thing on the inner fenders of my old GMC truck and it's lasted for years. If you have a painted surface that you also want to protect from scraps you can use transparent tape from 3M. GM has used it for years to protect vulnerable areas on there trucks to protect them from road rash.I use it around the shop and on the equipment. Works really well and lasts forever.

Very nice job on the coating. How about a full photo of the tractor.

Once a year:eek: I do it once a month :(

Never knew of the 3M tape--but I am already thinking of uses for it ;)

I have posted full photos over on the Bobcat forum if you want to take a peek.

Auto parts also sell 'gravel guard', a rubbery material that sprays on and is available in rattle cans as well as pressure gun applicable.

Rattle cans available in black only but colors available in pressure gun application.

Just did my rocker pannels on my Jimmy last night and am considering doing my tractor as well.

Rattle cans are in the $10. range, and did the Jimmy with only one can, might require 2 for the tractor fender undersides.

The theory is that pebbles etc bounce off rather than chip the finish. Standard on many car rocker pannels nowdays.

I suspect that this is similar to spray-on bed liner.

Originally I had planned to do the rattle cans. Then I asked my buddy (body shop owner) about the rockguard that they use on the lower panels. He came up with the idea of the bedliner spray since he had some leftover and saw how durable it was in the back of 2 of his trucks.

Looks very nice. I want to do something similar. I want to spray bedliner on the operator platform instead the rubber matt. While doing it I might do the fenders too. Did you take them off or did you do it while on the tractor?

The plan was to take the tires off and spray it that way. When I took the tractor to the shop, he said we didn't need to take them off.

He taped the line and used some masking paper for overspray and shot it that way.

Hey, good idea. Maybe the spray-on bed liner applied under the deck would keep grass from sticking to it.

I could be way off on this but I have sprayed on bed liner and it is NOT slick at all. It is made to prevent something skidding. There may be a slick bed liner, no idea.

It would seem the rough type I have would really cause especially damp grass to stick worst then a slick metal would. I know they make some slick sprays but am about 100% sure you will never find them for something you walk on.

There is a product called Durabac. I have used it and like it. It comes in a really rough ( ground up tires in it) and a smooth. I roll it on but the smooth can be sprayed. The smooth comes out like the texture on an icebox. The rough would take your skin off. I drive my trackhoe on it and it holds up about a year before I need to recoat a few wear spots. The smooth would be great under a mower deck. Cote-L Distribution Company

you guys are bad. :). I was doing some research on removing stickers. I recently got a new Kubota and it a lot of stickers I wanted to remove. Did that andit was relatively painless. Then cleaned the spots with some soap water to get rid of the wd40 and then used some cleaner was to remove anything that was left and protect the newly exposed paint. Yes, I wash somewhat regularly, at least in the Summer and wax maybe Spring and Fall to help protect the finish. anyway the sot was turned into an all over wax. in regards to the bedliner on the deck, I tried that maybe a month ago, holding up well so far, I only have a problem with a couple spots on the deck where the nipple holes are inverted up for grip I guess. It seems to come off the very top. I think I am letting it stand long enough, just a tough area to get it to hold. Anyone have similar experience or solution?? I used a little quart can I got at Checker and rolled in on.

If it's dirty than that means your making money. If you have time to wax it the you have to much time on your hands.
