If you could only stock your home bar with 3 types of liquor, what would they be?

When I use to drink and was single, I only kept Yuengling black and tan in my refig. Black stoudt stuff that rarely no one ever liked. Meant more for me (but I always offered).:D

Tequila - Lunazul Reposado about $18 but better than more expensive brands.
Rum - Cruzan aged dark rum about $12 best inexpensive rum or Goslings Black Seal about $17 none better at any price.
Gin - The cheaper the better as cheaper has more intense juniper berry flavor.

PS Am I invited? For a very small fee I will taste test any kind of liquor you have and give my opinion on it. :drink:

Oh, and mixers etc.,
For the rum either Coca Cola or Pat O'Brien's Hurricane mix and a slice of orange.
For the Tequila, Pat O'Brien's Margarita mix and a slice of lime.
For the gin, collins mix, cherry syrup, a cherry and club soda.

But if you want to get fancy and you like chocolate try my Tsunami #2 martini.
In a frozen martini glass, drizzle some Smucker's Magic Shell Chocolate then add one shot each of Vanilla Vodka, Bailey's Irish Cream, Kamora Coffee Liqueur and Creme De Cacao in a shaker full of crushed ice, shake then strain into glass. Enjoy.

Note: Seek professional advice if you enjoy 6 or more of these a day. Kids, don't try this at home.

I don't think I could do just 3. Our standard bar stock is -

Grey Goose Vodka (in the freezer)
Rebecca Creek Bourbon
Old Weller when I can find it
Jameson Gold Reserve
Appleton Estates 12 year old Rum
1800 Gold tequila
Grand Marnier
Triple Sec
Beefeater Gin (we only use it as a mixer)
Warres Otima 20 year tawny port

Mixers, we keep

Club Soda
Sweetened Lime Juice
Sweet and Sour
Limes
Lemons
Grenadine
Bitters

We usually have some Bailey's Irish Cream as well.

You've probably noticed it's mostly top shelf stuff, I learned long ago that you can either pay now in money or pay later in hangover pain when it comes to liquor so I pay now in money. We actually don't drink that much, sometimes going months without a drink but some days, you need a drink at the end of the day. Usually it's beer or wine but having the other stuff is nice. I like to drink the Bourbon or Whiskey neat in the winter time, helps me stay warm.

If I had to stock a bar with only 3 types of liquor, hoping to accommodate the widest range of tastes, it would be (in addition to a bottle of chardonnay and a pilsner beer):

Bacardi light rum,
a decent bourbon like Ezra Brooks (bargain) or Wild Turkey (expensive),
and Absolut vodka

Mixer-wise all you need is coke, club soda and/or tonic water. OJ and cranberry give you more options.

Anyone who likes dark rum will drink Bacardi light (but not the other way around), your gin-and-tonic people will drink a vodka tonic (but not the other way around), and your scotch drinker will drink a good bourbon (but not the other way around). In other words, gin, scotch, dark rums, tequila, and liqueurs are acquired tastes. So as a former bartender, I'd say that white wine, pilsner beer, rum-and-coke, vodka-tonic, and bourbon-and-soda will cover 95% of what people commonly ask for.

Have never served hard liquor to guests. We usually have 3-4 kinds of beer, ditto wine. My wife and I like a little Knob Creek or Buffalo Trace in the evenings sometimes. No mixers no water no ice.

Same here, usually wine or beer for guests. I agree with the Buffalo Trace, splash of water for me though. I also enjoy TX Blended Whiskey to sip sometimes.

If I had to limit to three liquors, it would be a sipping bourbon, a sipping anejo tequila and a vodka.

And invite Jack over as well. Maybe even call George. My three best friends.

Any liquor that costs less than .24 an ounce
Old Milwaukee beer

No way would I have a stocked bar, I couldn't afford that many friends.
