Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

While an undergrad I dated a 6' blue-eyed blonde who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa to American parents. We were refused entry to an African-American sponsored event (I was to be the "guest" of my African-American date).

After making a big issue of this in the student newspaper with comments about the leaders of the African-American club being Indiana-American, Mississippi-American, etc., I was very pleased and gratified that the organization shortly thereafter was renamed the Black Student Union.

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

I am with you Pittbull.
My wife is French Italian. She has darker skin than me and blue eyes and brown hair. I met an old ex girlfriend who apparently in the interveneing years had become a racist because she actually had the nerve to say my all-American wife was a "colored" person. Being as my best friend (and for real blood brother) who I have known since I was a little boy skinny dipping in the creeks just happens to be black as night and a very sweet and gentle person (unlike me) I decided that to even qualify that remark with an answer would be an insult to all my "colored" friends including my wife. Somehow I feel I got the better deal. J

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Thanks Bird for the info. By the way folks, the term "Caucasian", was originally was used to describe all tribes east of the Caucas mountian chain that seperates the land mass europe from asia. Tribes west of these mountanins were called Caucasian those east Mongolians. Spain and Portugal are well west of these mountains.
So for this discussion, what are these people, Caucasian, Hispanic or both???

cheers,

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Several years ago when I was running a commercial roofing company I was doing some state work (Pennsylvania). Our hiring practices were investigated because of the state funding. The investigation found two things. We were discriminating against women and minorities.

I argued that women weren't beating our doors down to become roofers and that I had a problem hiring someone who needed a translator to fill out the application.

When you're working on a roof that is 60' in the air and I'm yelling stop, because you're about to back off the roof edge, I think its pretty important to know and understand our language (ENGLISH). This is an extreme example but the good folks in our state offices (many minorties, and unsympathetic) told me I had to accomodate them. That it was my responsibility to learn to communicate with them, not the other way around.

To that I say bull donkey. Its time that becoming an American requires more than filling out an application and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Although now reciting the Pledge is unacceptable in some peoples eyes (thats a different subject that I'm sure would generate as much conversation as this one).

Somehow I believe that if I moved my family to Germany or France that I would be expected to conform to their ways and to learn their language.

While I'm on my soapbox. We hand out a ton of money to other countries. We're fighting a losing battle to prevent the import of drugs into our country. Some of the drugs are coming from these countres we are aiding. Some of the drugs are coming into our country with the assistance of corrupt governments that are also receiving aid. Isn't it time we turned off the faucet? Stop the drug traffic and we'll send the aid. I know that many innocent people will suffer, but isn't the same happening here?

You've got me rolling. The Afghan Government wants us to insure that there are no more civilian casulaties like the bombing of the wedding. I understand that 40 people may have been killed. Thats 40 too many but it pails compared to the 3000 that were killed in our country. Sorry, no tears here.
Thanks to the men and women that are overseas protecting the rights we still have.

Kip

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Well, I suppose next time they want to have a "wedding" in Afganistan perhaps they might want to consider not shooting at the jets flying overhead. Not a lot of sympathey being generated here even if they were legit, they should have run the buggers out a long time ago, considering they have been able to run the Turks, the British, the Russians out why were the Taliaban so tuff? They will run us out eventually too because we don't even want to be there but I suspect when we leave there will be a lot of weddings held in the interim without shoulder fired missles being in attendence.
Screw this one world World Court, the U.N. and the Kofee guy, they can all kiss my Rebel rear. J

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Sorry but I cannot stop there. I am looking at some wedding pictures of my wife and here is some of my sister and my brother right here. Here is some of Floyd, my best friend mentioned earlier in this thread. Darn if despite the fact that we all own quite a few guns I don't see even a single machine gun leaning agaisnt the wall or slung over my dad's shoulder. Y'all don't suppose dem Afganies was having demselves a shotgun wedding you s'ppose, got a little drunk and tried out some F16s for target practice now do ya? Yeah right. J

I couldn't agree more with "some" of what you said. However, as the devil's advocate, youre not looking at the big picture as well.

You talk about the FICA and IRS returns. You have neglected to look at the fact that most immagrants from the south are paid on a "cash" basis and don't pay any form of taxes.

I know, and you know, that in the Dallas area, you can go to almost any construction site and yell "Immagration" or "INS" and where there were 200 workers, you immediately have a ghost town. WHY?

Yes, the housing industry is dependent upon immagrants, however, the majority of the immagrants that are purchasing these homes are from the middle east or from Asia. They are purchasing the homes with the money that was made from the backs (either recently or within the last 35 years) of the American public that has/is paying taxes.

I spent 3 years in SE Asia in the '60s and everywhere I turned, I saw the locals making money hand-over-fist off of the American government. Both black market theft, barter, trading, etc. and as legit business charging outrageous prices that Uncle Sam did not question. AND, here I was, an NCO making $93.00 a month and serving my country. I know for a fact that you saw it as well Harv.

I guess my major point is not the immagrants but the theives that the American public has been putting in office for years. These officials, I feel, don't give a [censored] about the public except with an attitued that we are the "cash cow" and they have a personal agenda to fulfill at our expense while they continue to line thier pockets with our tax dollars. Then they want more.

I ask you all this: After a Federal politician has reached "tenure", (is it 6 years?) they can retire with access to medical benefits that we can only dream of and with an annual paycheck that far exceeds any and all benefit they provided as a "public servant"?

I realize that I wandered somewhat, but think about what I said!

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

If you are not a citizen of the United States, you have no Constitutional rights. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights only applies to U.S. citizens and not to anyone else.

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Sorry, Rotr, but that's one of the least-accurate statements I've encountered on the Internet. Aliens are "people," and much of the constitution's protections apply to "the people"--not "the citizens." Aliens have many, if not most, of the same rights enjoyed by citizens. Free speech? You bet. Right to avoid self-incrimination? Of course. Bear arms? Absolutely, at least for permanent resident aliens. Protection against unreasonable searches? Of course. Due Process of law? Yep, as constrained by the INS's rights pertaining to deportation and the absence of an obligation to provide counsel at public expense. And as a veteran, you will appreciate the fact that there are thousands of aliens serving in the U.S. Military to guard those rights for all of us. There are, of course, things aliens do not have the right to do, e.g. vote, travel in this country as long as they want, and leave our shores with an assured right to return.
